Job Description

The Critical Environment Energy Marshall ensures compliance with Microsoft's Energy Isolation Program, establishing acceptance criteria and driving program rigor to exceed safety policy requirements. This role involves implementing a centralized Lockout Tag Out (LOTO) procedure, liaising with construction teams, acting as a subject matter expert in incident investigations, participating in high-risk activity planning, and ensuring the verification of personnel qualifications and PPE. Responsibilities include overseeing energy isolation activities, updating progress continuously, and generating monthly reports. The ideal candidate possesses expertise in critical environments, industry standards, and building MEP systems. They should effectively communicate technical information and possess practical experience with building management systems and automation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience

    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience

    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements: 

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • Experience in critical environment and industry standards and practices
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical solutions and concepts to engineers and non-engineers
  • Ability to interpret line drawings and system redundancies to ensure design of LOTO systems is 100% effective and in compliance with Microsoft standards
  • Experience in the Control of Hazardous Energy in complex mission critical infrastructure
  • Experience with the operation and maintenance of building MEP systems. (Power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, security, life safety, controls systems and sprinkler systems)
  • Understanding of electrical theory and practical application via your maintenance & operation of critical electrical equipment. (Paralleling switchgear, redundant UPS systems, DC battery strings, multi-source electrical utility switchgear, standby diesel generators, etc.)
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, terminology, and documentation (blueprints, electrical one-lines, construction drawings etc.)
  • Practical experience with building management systems and automation, controls & frameworks.

Electrical Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and assures the overall compliance of Microsoft’s Energy Isolation Program and establish acceptance criteria for authorizing campus Energy Isolation Plan.
  • Implements learnings, provides consistency, and drives rigor into Microsoft’s Energy Isolation program and ensures program meets or exceeds company safety policy requirements.
  • Utilise local code and standards as the foundation for Microsoft’s Energy Isolation program that is implemented throughout the campus.
  • Establish with the Engineering team a centralized Lockout Tag Out (LOTO) procedure with all campus entities and determine if a group or individual LOTO procedure will be required.
  • Commencement of energy isolation activities with updates on a continuous basis.
  • Liaise with Microsoft construction team where Energy Isolation activities may potentially impact data center core operations.
  • Act in coordination with the Engineering team as a subject matter expert in all energy isolation incident investigations in area of responsibility
  • Participate in high-risk activity (HRA) planning meetings associated with energy isolation.
  • Ensures high-risk SOWs, SOPs and MOPs are reviewed, and all sources of energy are identified.
  • Ensure a process is established that verifies qualifications, training, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for personnel performing the work.
  • Generate monthly reports highlighting activities and general status of energy isolation program
