GRAPHICS ENGINEER

Responsibilities:

An graphics engineer is needed to help maintain, upgrade, and extend our in-house game engine. Your tasks will focus on tools and technology used in our graphics engine.  You will also be expected to perform code and memory optimization tasks in both the low level engine code and in higher level game code.  You will also be expected to help create or maintain documentation of the engine.  At times you will need to work side by side with artists and designers, developing new features or helping them take advantage of existing features and implement new rendering techniques.

Requirements:

  • Experience programming DirectX 11 & 12
  • Shipped at least one game, preferably cross-platform
  • Experience optimizing both CPU and GPU code for memory and speed
  • Knowledge of current rendering techniques
  • Strong 3D math and computer graphics experience
  • Solid C and C++ knowledge
  • Experience writing and debugging shader code
  • Positive attitude
  • Strong work ethic
  • Willingness to adapt
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • At least 2 years of experience

Preferable:

  • Knowledge of Vulkan, OpenGL, PlayStation APIs
  • Familiarity with 3D Studio Max plugins
  • Tools programming experience

Full-time onsite employees must be eligible to work in the United States. We will also consider contract work from within or outside the USA. Strong English language skills in compatible time zones will also be considered.

GAME PROGRAMMER

Petroglyph seeks a mid to senior level game programmer to join the Petroglyph team. A programmer in this role will work closely with the lead programmer, designers, artists, and musicians with a great deal of autonomy to develop new systems and gameplay. Roles often shift, and programmers will work on a variety of tasks and can learn new specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Navigate and augment a very large existing code base.
  • Design, implement, debug and document new game systems and tools in C++.
  • Must create high quality, high performance code.
  • Follow coding standards and best practices.
  • Provide accurate time estimates for tasks and work within those constraints.
  • Work cohesively with a team of programmers, artists and designers.

Requirements

  • S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 4 or more years of C/C++ or C# experience.
  • Must be an avid gamer with a passion for creating great games.
  • Ability to work independently and to be self-directing.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to adapt.
  • Strong 3D math skills.

Desireable

  • 2 or more years of game industry and networking experience.
  • Adaptable to different work environments. Windows, Linux, RDP, ssh.
  • Scripting experience. Lua, python, javascript.
  • Database experience. Postgres, SQL Server.
  • Cloud experience. AWS, Openstack, Azure.
  • Tools programming experience.
  • Knowledge of multi-threading and SIMD technologies.

SENIOR ARTIST

Petroglyph is looking for an exceptionally skilled Senior or Lead Artist.  The ideal candidate has extensive experience modeling, texturing, and illustrating a diverse visual range of environments, vehicles, props, and characters, as well as strong familiarity in related tools — 3DS Max, Zbrush, environment-building in Unreal, Unity, Photoshop or other tools. A solid grasp of form, structure, color, and light for both 2D and 3D art assets is essential. The Senior / Lead artist should also have experience managing a team of artists. The ideal candidate works well in an environment of peers who are passionate about making great games.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in game development using 3DS Max or equivalent 3D program.
  • Have shipped AAA PC or console titles as a lead artist, RTS and Strategy games preferred.
  • An exceptional understanding towards form, shape, structure, and silhouette in regards to modeling.
  • Superior eye for light, shade, color, and detail in creating texture maps.
  • Experience working with and mentoring other artists to develop a unique and cohesive visual styl
  • A thorough understanding of 3D art pipelines and the processes involved from the conceptual phase to implementation.
  • The ability to effectively collaborate with game designers and programmers.
  • Self-motivation, good communications skills, and a great team-player attitud
  • Expert in creating efficient models
  • Ability to create high-quality Photoshop textures and maps
  • Must work well in a team environment and be open to direction
  • Proven success in managing project timelines, budgets, and teams.
  • Ability to jump into any aspect of a project
  • Demonstrated success in pitching clients and conveying concepts
  • Adaptability to learn proprietary tools and have a strong technical background using art tools.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Art related college degree: BA or BFA or long-term industry experience
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and visual. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively is important, as is the ability to professionally present concepts and ideas to marketing and studio management.

Pluses:

  • More than 5 years of experience as a 3D artist
  • A passion for playing and developing games.
  • Have shipped a AAA title as a Senior Artist or Lead Artist
  • Demonstrated ability to direct a team of artists in the role of a Lead Artist in the completion of a long-term, original product (film or game) on-time and within budget.
  • Unreal or Unity experience

Local or relocation is preferred but open to remote contract work for the right candidate.
