Summary

Shape the future of empirical validation for AI and ML at massive scale at Kaggle! We are seeking a Head of Kaggle Research role to lead and build out a new team for Kaggle, based in Warsaw, focused on driving forward the next generation of community-based benchmarking and evaluation for LLMs and GenAI. This builds off of Kaggle's strong success in the past partnering with LMSYS. We're looking for someone who can envision the next generation of tools along these lines and develop them well to become the new go-to standard for the field. The Google Cloud AI Research team addresses AI challenges motivated by Google Cloud’s mission of bringing AI to tech, healthcare, finance, retail and many other industries. We work on a range of unique problems focused on research topics that maximize scientific and real-world impact, aiming to push the state-of-the-art in AI and share findings with the broader research community. We also collaborate with product teams to bring innovations to real-world impact that benefits our customers. **Responsibilities** * Create new paradigms for community-based benchmarking and evaluation, and bring them to reality through launched tooling. * Work with the Kaggle Competitions team to run innovative competitions that produce research value and insights into AI models and methods. * Collaborate with the Kaggle Competitions team to expand Kaggle’s competitions platform to host and run LLM Benchmarks and community evaluations. * Collaborate with Google DeepMind Researchers and external researchers. * Publish valuable research about the field of AI and Machine Learning in academic journals and on Kaggle for the knowledge of the AI ecosystem. * Represent Kaggle and Google at AI industry events, conferences, and other forums. * Manage and lead the Kaggle Research team and define Kaggle’s Research strategy. * Initiate and lead projects which strengthen Kaggle’s relevance to cutting-edge ML research. * Collaborate cross-functionally with various stakeholders.
Must have:
  • PhD degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 6 years of experience with research agendas across multiple teams or projects
  • Coding experience in Python, JavaScript, R, Java, or C++
  • One or more scientific publication submission(s) for conferences, journals, or public repositories
Good to have:
  • Experience leading a team of researchers and software engineers
  • Demonstrated expertise within generative modeling (publication history, degree work, product work), and experience with language models
  • Proficiency coding in one or more data science languages, and experience working with real datasets
  • Familiarity with the space of ML competitions, Kaggle competitions, and the Kaggle platform
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and functions
  • Demonstrated expertise in benchmarking and evaluation
