About The Global Public Policy & Government Affairs team’s work spans across a broad and diverse range of functions and workstreams, including government affairs and government relations; policy and issue area expertise; risk and crisis management and mitigation; outreach, coalitions, and partnerships; and philanthropy. The mission of the Global Public Policy & Government Affairs team is to prevent, manage, and mitigate political, legislative, and regulatory threats to TikTok and to promote a political, legislative, and regulatory environment that supports growth and innovation for our business. The Public Policy Team for South Korea is responsible for managing overall policy issues, navigating regulatory landscapes, and addressing crisis management challenges. This role reports directly to Regional Head of Global Public Policy - NEA. About the team The candidate must possess substantial experience in policy assessment and risk management combined with strong and proven leadership and organizational skills. Demonstrated interest in, or experience working within, a similar tech company is highly desirable. The ideal candidate should be a highly flexible problem-solver with strong communication skills enabling them to effectively collaborate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. They must also demonstrate the ability to work independently and with agility in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Responsibilities - Support in overseeing strategic relationships with local governments, NGOs, academia, think tanks and other stakeholders in S. Korean region to facilitate the growth of Bytedance/TikTok; - Helping to shape strategic and actionable plans in line with respective regulations and policy frameworks; - Support in actively identifying emerging and significant policy issues across different markets and engaging with stakeholders and experts on issues of importance; - Support local teams to mitigate operational risks; monitoring political and social events in the region - Working with policymakers, think tanks, private sector partners and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on issues of technology-relevant public policy concerns; - Being an external advocate for TikTok's policy positions, and working to help local communities understand TikTok better.

Minimum Qualifications - Significant years of experience demonstrated experience managing public policy and/or government relations, advocacy work and government/private sector partnerships. - Deep understanding of key regional public policy issues with the potential to impact different business lines and the ability to guide the relevant teams on key opportunities and risks. General understanding of laws and regulations in S. Korea. - Strong leadership and communication skills, the individual will need to work with other cross-function departments including, but not limited to policy/legal/communications/products teams with a proven track record of successfully leading impactful cross-functional collaborations. - Outstanding judgment, persuasion and advocacy skills, creativity, and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and often evolving environment. Discipline, strong sense of responsibility and self-motivation. - Ability to work independently with exemplary time and task management skills - Previous experience in roles requiring frequent travel and adaptability to different cultural and professional environments. - Demonstrated ability to remain productive and maintain high performance while travelling. Preferred Qualifications - Excellent skill in Korean, and business level communication skill in English is required as this role will be working with local and global stakeholders - Advanced degree in Political Science, International Affairs, Government, Public Affairs, related field, or equivalent practical experience. - Previous political experience. - Previous experience working at a global company handling public policy --- ByteDance is committed to creating an inclusive space where employees are valued for their skills, experiences, and unique perspectives.
