Job Description

As an Infographic Journalist at TelevisaUnivision Noticias Digital, you will collaborate with reporters, editors, and developers to create compelling data-driven visual stories for web, mobile, and social media. You will work in a fast-paced news environment, responding quickly to major news stories with infographics made on deadline. Your responsibilities include developing innovative visual storytelling formats, maintaining high design standards, experimenting with data representation, and optimizing content for multiple platforms. The role requires a strong understanding of journalistic ethics and excellent communication skills.
Must have:
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in graphic design or visual storytelling
  • Proficient in data visualization tools (Datawrapper, D3.js, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Experience working with data sets and translating data into visual representations
  • Strong understanding of journalistic ethics and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Good to have:
  • Familiarity with web development, including JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • A pragmatic innovator who can develop solutions
  • A deep interest in news coverage and learning from other journalists
  • Strong interest in visual design, with a solid understanding of design principles and typography
  • Experience with animation or motion graphics
  • Familiarity with content management systems and digital publishing

ABOUT THE ROLE & TEAM:

TelevisaUnivision is the leading Spanish-language media company in the world! We’re growing our offerings, building on the launch of our successful streaming platform ViX.

TelevisaUnivision Noticias Digital is seeking an infographic journalist based in Mexico City to join its visual team. As part of the digital team, you will work closely with developers, multimedia reporters, and editors to tell innovative, fast-paced graphic and visual stories that can’t be told through traditional reporting methods.

ABOUT YOU:

Your work will be integral to the department, driving the creation of fresh and creative approaches to visual journalism under a fast-paced news environment. You’ll experiment with novel methods to uncover new storytelling solutions and make journalistic and visual decisions to ensure the highest levels of accuracy, clarity, and impact in your work.

YOUR DAY-DAY: (aka Responsibilities)

  • Collaborate with reporters, editors, and developers to create compelling data-driven visual stories for web, mobile, and social media.

  • Work in a fast-paced news environment and be willing to respond quickly to major news stories with infographics made on deadline.

  • Develop and implement innovative visual storytelling formats, including infographics, interactive graphics, and data visualizations.

  • Maintain a high standard of design and accuracy in the production of infographics, ensuring they are both informative and aesthetically appealing.

  • Experiment with new ways of representing complex data to enhance storytelling, while ensuring the content is accessible and user-friendly.

  • Stay on top of trends in data journalism and infographics to introduce fresh ideas to the team.

  • Work to ensure that visual content is optimized for multiple platforms, including web, mobile, and social media.

  • Continuously collaborate with the editorial team to ensure that visual content aligns with journalistic standards and editorial vision.

YOU HAVE: (Qualifications, Required Skills & Experience)

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience in graphic design, data journalism, or visual storytelling.

  • Proficient in data visualization tools (Datawrapper, D3.js, Adobe Creative Suite).

  • Experience working with data sets and the ability to translate data into meaningful visual representations.

  • Strong understanding of journalistic ethics and the importance of accuracy in visual storytelling.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Willing and available to work nights and/or weekends based on coverage needs.

DESIRED:

  • Familiarity with web development, including JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. As well as scaffolding frameworks (Svelte)

  • A pragmatic innovator who can develop solutions that elicit responses justifying the effort and investment.

  • A deep interest in news coverage and a passion for learning from other journalists.

  • Strong interest in visual design, with a solid understanding of design principles and typography.

  • Experience with animation or motion graphics for interactive or dynamic storytelling.

  • Familiarity with content management systems and the technical aspects of digital publishing.
