Volmi — A Virtuos Studio seeks a Level Designer with 5-7 years of experience in FPS level design for AAA titles. Responsibilities include designing engaging levels, collaborating with art, programming, and narrative teams, conducting playtesting, and ensuring timely project completion. The ideal candidate possesses strong portfolio showcasing diverse encounter types and gameplay mechanics, in-depth understanding of gameplay systems, and proficiency in scripting and using advanced tools. Volmi — A Virtuos Studio is an outsourcing company that specializes in game development and game content creation. Over the past 9 years, we have successfully completed over a thousand different projects and have gained considerable experience in creating 2D and 3D art, as well as developing turnkey games. Since 2022, we have been a part of Virtuos, the world’s leading game developer, and have become the first Virtuos studio in Eastern Europe.

In particular, we have contributed to the development of popular games such as Diablo 2: Resurrected, Metro Exodus, Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, Smite, Paladins, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, and Marvel Snap. Therefore our team creates high-end gaming content and games for various Mobile, PC, Console, and VR projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design levels that offer meaningful, engaging experiences, balancing challenge, reward, and player progression;
  • Work closely with other departments (art, programming, narrative) to integrate gameplay mechanics, visuals, and story into cohesive levels;
  • Organize and participate in playtesting sessions, analyzing player feedback to refine and optimize level designs;
  • Keep track of the level design’s progress, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule and that any issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner;
  • Work closely with programmers and technical artists to ensure that levels are feasible within the game’s technical constraints.

Qualifications

  • At least 5-7 years of experience in game design, with a significant portion focused on level design in FPS;
  • At least 2 AAA game titles, demonstrating the ability to design complex and polished levels within a large-scale production;
  • Strong portfolio showcasing complex, polished levels, showcasing diverse encounter types and gameplay mechanics that highlight both creativity and technical proficiency;
  • In-depth understanding of gameplay systems, mechanics, narrative design, and player psychology;
  • Expertise in balancing difficulty, pacing, and creating meaningful gameplay experiences that resonate with diverse player groups;
  • Proficiency in scripting and using advanced tools to create dynamic, interactive environments;
  • Ability to work closely with multiple departments (art, programming, sound, narrative) to implement a shared vision for the game;
  • Communicating ideas clearly and being receptive to feedback is crucial to integrating design into the final product;
  • Experience working under deadlines, managing time efficiently, and keeping track of progress across multiple levels or game zones;
  • Ability to iterate on designs based on testing, player feedback, or other team members’ inputs.

Will be a plus:

  • A strong understanding of how to design levels for different genres, from action-adventure to strategy games, giving the designer a versatile skill set that can adapt to various project needs;
  • Ability to create immersive environments that not only look appealing but also tell a story through world-building, props, and environmental details, without relying heavily on dialogue;
  • Experience working with different game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, CryEngine) or proprietary engines, enabling the designer to adapt quickly to the needs of different projects;
  • Expertise in scripting and programming to add dynamic and interactive elements to levels, creating systems that enhance player engagement, such as events, triggers, or AI behaviors.
