Tesla's Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer for Battery Module Packs. Responsibilities include driving components and subsystems from concept to production, 3D and 2D design, developing new technologies to improve product metrics, leading improvements to existing products, providing technical leadership, specifying requirements, prototyping and testing, root cause analysis, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and reporting to department leadership. The role demands strong engineering fundamentals, experience with various manufacturing processes, high-volume assembly design, test plan definition, data analysis, and excellent documentation skills. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player who can work efficiently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Our team is responsible for the performance, safety, reliability, and scalability of every automotive HV battery product at Tesla!

What You’ll Do

· Drive components and subsystems from requirement definition & design concept through launch and production ramp

· 3D design of complex parts and assemblies plusD meticulous release of 2D

· Develop and execute new technologies that improve product metrics (performance, cost, mass)

· Independently identify and lead improvements to existing products

· Provide technical leadership / mentorship / design review for less experienced employees

· Specification definition (dimensional, functional, performance, manufacturing)

· Own basic hands-on prototyping, testing and analysis; support advanced testing and analysis

· Root causing test failures and production problems

· Build collaborative relationships with other Tesla teams (manufacturing, testing, NPI, supply chain, etc.)

· Written & live reporting to department leadership, representing own work

What You’ll Bring

· Strong engineering fundamentals in heat transfer, fluids, mechanics, and electronics

· Desire to own large scope and work hard— we have small teams and fast timelines

· Capable of initiating and leading cross-functional technical task force

· Capable of efficiently executing tasks autonomously with minimal need for supervision or guidance from management

· Experience with various manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, metal stamping, thermoforming, welding/brazing, plating, heat treating, and bonding. Direct machine shop skills is a plus

· Experience designing for high volume assembly, both manual and automated

· Experience defining test plans, designing test setups, and analyzing data

· Detail-oriented personality with top-tier documentation and reporting skills

· Mastery over CAD modeling. CATIA V5/V6 experience a plus but not mandatory

· BS/MS degree of Mechanical/Mechatronics engineering (or equivalent) with 5+ years of experience
