Dawson Mine is seeking an experienced Mining Supervisor: Dragline to join their Production team in Moura, QLD. The role involves overseeing and supervising a team of Dragline Operators working on BE1370 and Marion 8200 Draglines to produce Steelmaking Coal. Responsibilities include coordinating personnel, equipment, and resources within Dragline operations, ensuring safe, cost-effective, and efficient activities, enforcing plan compliance, promoting engagement to meet production targets, and ensuring compliance with statutory legislative requirements. The ideal candidate should have supervisory experience in open-cut coal mines, preferably with dragline operations, and significant operational experience in the coal mining industry. Strong communication and people skills are essential, along with a desire to be an effective supervisor and leader.

Dawson Mine

Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.  In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

Dawson is located at the southern end of the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, being just over a 2hrs drive west from either Rockhampton or Gladstone, or 4.5hrs drive north of the Darling Downs or South Burnett.

Job Description

Dawson Mine has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mining Supervisor: Dragline to join the Production team on a permanent basis, based in Moura, QLD. This role will have you oversee and supervise a team of Dragline Operators operating our BE1370 and Marion 8200 Draglines to produce Steelmaking Coal.

You will be responsible for:

  • Coordination of personnel, equipment and resources within Dragline operations.
  • Ensure site dragline activities are undertaken in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner in line with agreed operational standards and targets working as one team.
  • Enforce plan compliance and promote engineer and operator engagement to ensure that the business can meet production targets.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory legislative requirements.

To be successful for this position, you will ideally hold:

  • Supervisory experience within an open-cut coal mine (dragline operations desirable).
  • Operational dragline experience is highly advantageous.
  • Hold the Supervisor & Risk Facilitator competencies (S1, 2, 3 & G2) is desirable.
  • Significant operational experience within the coal mining industry.
  • A strong understanding of open cut mining equipment and mining techniques.
  • A desire to continually work at being an effective supervisor and leader.
