2K is seeking a Senior Manager of Observability for its CoreTech Platform Engineering team. This role involves leading Observability teams to support production and development environments for game platforms and studios. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, technical, and communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and customers on adopting scalable architecture patterns. Responsibilities include developing and driving the strategic direction of Observability teams, leading and scaling teams for root cause analysis and continuous improvement, implementing SRE best practices, building metrics-driven approaches for cloud service stability, establishing and supervising OKRs, and architecting resilient multi-cloud systems. The role also requires partnering with cross-functional teams on security, disaster recovery, and business continuity, establishing working processes with software engineering teams for innovation, and defining standards for systems and services.
Must have:
  • 5+ years in SRE, DevOps, or system engineering
  • 3+ years coaching senior technical talent
  • 5+ years experience with Observability tools (e.g., Datadog)
  • 5+ years experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GHA, Jenkins)
  • Experience influencing stakeholders and customers
  • Proven leadership with focus on adaptability
  • Deep knowledge of modern infrastructure management
  • Focus on availability, security, and performance
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals
  • Fluent in at least one modern programming language
  • Experience architecting large-scale distributed infrastructure
  • Experience architecting microservices with virtualization/containerization
  • Experience managing stakeholder relationships with executive leadership
Good to have:
  • Experience building an Observability practice from scratch
  • Experience developing software for highly scalable/distributed systems
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code for elastic workloads
  • Experience in the gaming industry
  • Familiarity with source code repositories and IaC

What We Need

We are looking for a Sr Manager of Observability for the CoreTech Platform Engineering team that reports into the Senior Director of Platform Engineering. This role will be leading the Observability teams that support our production and development environments for our game platform and studios. Robust leadership, technical, and communication skills are required as you work with internal game teams and customers to adopt and implement modern scalable architecture patterns.

What You Will Do

  • Develop, manage and drive the Observability teams strategic direction to enable engineering teams to ship and release reliably, securely and efficiently.

  • Lead, and scale the Observability teams to focus on root cause analysis, pattern identification and continuous improvement in order to optimize application performance, resilience and reliability.

  • Develop and implement SRE best practices and techniques including detecting and responding to issues, and restoring applications/services across business domains.

  • Build metrics-driven approach to ensure the stability and security of enterprise cloud services including SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs

  • Establish and supervise OKRs to measure overall progress for the teams

  • Architect and operate highly resilient systems in a multi-cloud global environment serving game and consumer services.

  • Partner with cross functional teams to support and improve our overall security posture, Patch Management, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity efforts.

  • Establish working processes with software engineering teams to support our innovation efforts.

  • Define and implement standards that will affect systems, services and multiple software environments

 

Who We Think Will Be a Great Fit

  • 5+ years experience in the SRE, Devops. or system engineering fields

  • 3+ years coaching and mentoring senior technical talent

  • 5+ years strong experience using Observability tools like Datadog (preferred), New Relic, etc.

  • 5+ years experience working with CICD tools like GHA, Jenkins, ArgoCD, etc.

  • Experience dealing with challenging customers to drive standardization through influencing stakeholders, partners, and customers

  • Proven leadership skills with a focus on adapting and changing as the organization or environment requires. Create an environment of ownership which continuously challenges the team to evolve our platforms and services to meet customer needs.

  • Deeply knowledgeable about modern infrastructure management tools and processes.

  • Relentless focus on availability, security, and performance with a customer-centric mindset

  • Software engineering fundamentals in system design, architecture and tooling

  • Fluent with at least one modern programming language and a good understanding of code management principles

  • Experience architecting and maintaining large scale distributed infrastructure that spans on premise and cloud datacenters

  • Has architected microservices using virtualization or containerization.

  • Experience managing stakeholder relationships, communicating with and addressing the company’s executive leadership team.

 

Bonus Points:

  • Experience building an Observability practice from ground up.

  • Experience with developing software for highly scalable/distributed systems

  • Experience using IaC for highly elastic workloads

  • Experience in gaming or similar industries combining large scale internet facing systems with software development and entertainment services culture

  • Familiarity with common source code repositories and infrastructure as code methodologies
