Job Description

ByteDance is seeking Software Engineers to join their AR Effect Platform team in San Jose, CA. The team is responsible for developing high-quality visual effects and augmented reality applications. Responsibilities include building low-level engine systems, fine tuning the AI-powered rendering engine, improving effect creation tools, implementing new features, and crafting clean and maintainable C++ code. The ideal candidate will have experience with graphics APIs (OpenGL, Vulkan, or DirectX), cross-platform SDK framework design, software service architecture, UI/back-end development, performance optimization, and the software development lifecycle.
Must have:
  • Develop software using graphics API (OpenGL, Vulkan, or DirectX)
  • Designing and implementing cross-platform SDK framework
  • Designing and implementing software service architecture
  • Designing and implementing UI and back-end business logic using JavaScript, TypeScript, or Lua
  • Profiling and optimizing performance
  • Working across all phases of the software development lifecycle
  • Maintaining and debugging software

Responsibilities Build high-quality visual effects and augmented reality applications by developing low-level engine systems including rendering pipeline, script bindings, asset pipeline, and ECS systems. Fine tune the AI empowered rendering engine developed by senior engineers to achieve high fidelity graphics on mobile devices. Improve effect creation tools, implement new tool or product features, and provide support for the company’s AR Effect platform. Craft clean and maintainable C++ code with easy to use API design. Maintain reusable systems, tools, and pipelines to enhance the team's development efficiency. Collaborate with cross-functional teams in standardizing the workflow and processes for AR effects production. Mentor interns and junior engineers.
Qualifications
Qualifications Must have a Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (any), Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related STEM field, and 1 year of related work experience; OR a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (any), Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related STEM field, and 2 years of related work experience. Of the required experience, must have 1 year of experience in each of the following: Develop software using graphics API including OpenGL, Vulkan or DirectX; Designing and implementing cross-platform SDK framework to deploy and integrate graphics features into various applications; Designing and implementing software service architecture to support high throughput and fault tolerant services; Designing and implementing UI and back-end business logic using JavaScript, TypeScript or Lua; Profiling and optimizing the low-level performance of standalone and mobile application; Working across all phases of the software development lifecycle for the design, development, and testing of software using C++, data structures, or algorithms; and Maintaining and debugging software. 【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $146961 - $250000 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

We cover 100% premium coverage for employee medical insurance, approximately 75% premium coverage for dependents and offer a Health Savings Account(HSA) with a company match. In addition to Flexible Spending Account(FSA) Options like Health Care, Limited Purpose and Dependent Care.
