Atomic Arcade is a brand-new video game development studio located in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area led by industry veterans from AAA game and film studios. We are in the process of staffing up our development team with outstanding talent to build our first multi-platform, AAA game - a bold and contemporary new take on the GI JOE Universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes! This is an excellent opportunity to not only build an outstanding AAA experience but to also help form the core foundations for the studio and team to build upon. Atomic Arcade seeks passionate, experienced, and a team-oriented Senior Gameplay Designer with combat or AI experience to help us craft an outstanding AAA, 3rd Person Action/Adventure game.

The ideal candidate will be a passionate, lifetime gamer with shown experience designing and implementing incredible content and features in other AAA titles. You possess an excellent understanding of Unreal Engine and Blueprint Scripting or other scripting tools. You have high standards in everything you do and are committed to crafting memorable gameplay experiences.


Working with our Lead Gameplay/Combat Designer you will play a meaningful role as we prototype and kick off pre-production. You will be responsible for some of the game’s moment-to-moment gameplay mechanics with a focus on the Combat and AI, driving them from concept all the way to ship, specifically for combat.


In this role, you will

  • Work closely with lead designers and other teams to brainstorm and help craft the vision for the game.
  • Own the implementation and design of gameplay features from start to finish in the Unreal Engine. Such as, combat abilities, weapons, enemies, Boss, etc.
  • Be the go-to person for the design and implementation of sophisticated content that require heavy artist/animations/designer/engineer interaction.
  • Be an advocate for player experience and build compelling user stories.


What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in Gameplay and/or Combat Design
  • At least 1 shipped AAA titles with significant contributions on successful gameplay/combat features or mechanics
  • Must have advanced skills or experience with the following: weapons/melee/abilities(combat), AI and cameras
  • Experience working and using blueprints in Unreal game engine
  • Experience tuning sophisticated systems (ex – aim assist, camera systems, AI Behavior trees, overall game balance, progression and RPG mechanics)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-sufficient and self-motivated, able to push features forward but also know when to ask for mentorship or help


What we're looking for

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Game Design.
  • Deep familiarity with AAA 3rd Person Action/Adventure games.
  • Ability to work on various design topics.
  • Very comfortable with Unreal Engine Blueprints.
  • Ability to communicate your ideas and collaborate with others.
  • Build clear and concise design specs.
  • Someone who is user-focused, creative, and innovative.
  • Passion for making and playing games.
  • Enthusiastic, positive, team-oriented approach to team collaboration.
  • Self-sufficient and self-motivated, can perform duties with little oversight.


Compensation Range, Currency USD:

  • Starting Pay Range: $104,160
  • Pay Range End: $175,920
