The Staff Design Program Manager at Netflix will establish and optimize design system frameworks across platforms (TV, Mobile, Web). This role requires collaboration across verticals (Live, Games, Growth) to ensure a cohesive member experience. Responsibilities include developing platform team operations, managing a creative pipeline, supporting team health and resourcing, providing strategic support during annual planning, prioritizing initiatives, and collaborating with various teams (design, product, research, engineering). The ideal candidate will advocate for design practices within the product development lifecycle, managing large design teams, and building strong cross-functional partnerships.

The Netflix XD Operations team is seeking a Staff Design Program Manager to join our Member XD team!  

XD creates rich sensory experiences that spark an emotional reaction with our members; driving connection, conversation and engagement.  The Member XD’s team mission is to envision and craft our members' journey and support our business objectives by connecting people to the stories and games they love.  As part of Member XD, you will bring your program management and people skills to establish best practices and drive programs at scale. 

  • Establish and optimize models for scaling design system frameworks/guidelines across platforms (TV, Mobile, Web and horizontal systems), so the design team can focus on innovating. Work across verticals (Live, Games, Growth)  to ensure effective collaboration that ultimately leads to a cohesive experience for Members.

  • Develop operations for each platform team (TV, Mobile/Web). Drive a complex creative pipeline, including prioritization and planning, resource management, and program tracking. Support & inform team health & resourcing alongside design leadership

  • Provide strategic support for programs across TV, Mobile, Web, especially during annual planning. This includes owning strategic artifacts that drive clarity for the business outcomes at a program level partnering with XFN partners. 

  • Prioritize high-priority complex initiatives and drive day to day programming (Mobile IA/Redesign). This includes driving programs, adding clarity to initiatives, teams, and strategies to ensure that XD is deeply connected to the context & highly aligned

  • Successfully collaborate with design leaders, designers, product managers, researchers, and engineers balancing multiple priorities and business demands

  • Advocate for design by ensuring the design team has time and space to apply rigorous design practices in the product development lifecycle

The Must-Haves

  • 13+ years of applicable program management experience in a technology and creative environment, preferable consumer entertainment companies, organizations or ecosystems 

  • Demonstrated delivery of large-scale design systems is required.

  • Experience delivering frameworks and guidelines - proven success in establishing models that drive consistency across a diverse range of product experiences. 

  • Experience in driving horizontal, company-wide processes, engagement models

  • Passion for user experience, design and design systems with a deep understanding of how design frameworks play a role in the design and product development process

  • The ability to thrive in ambiguous environments with demonstrated  examples of proactive cross-functional partnership on large-scale initiatives that required clarity, direction, and influence amidst complexity and evolving business objectives

  • Experience working across complex problem spaces with the ability to ask the right questions to arrive at better solutions with broader business priorities in mind. 

  • Experience managing both up and across large design teams of 30+ team members 

  • Strong instincts around people and organizations with proven experience working directly and or influencing Design Directors and Design VP’s

  • Relationship and trust building – candidates are expected to develop strong, trusting partnerships to guide, inform, or support efforts; you must have and demonstrate deep collaboration, curiosity, optimism and positivity

  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills and the ability to collaborate and execute alongside a diverse range of partners.

  • Written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate your concepts and evangelize them

  • Experience working in continuous delivery environments where the pace is fast

  • A willingness to fail fast and learn

  • Earnest, mature, and ego-free. You welcome candid feedback and can constructively give it as well

Pay Transparency

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top-of-market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $120,000 - $515,000

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs.  Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off.
