Gigamon protects hybrid networks and data for large organizations. This internship focuses on working alongside the core engineering team, specializing in AI, Cloud, and C programming. The intern will contribute to the foundational infrastructure code, optimizing performance and writing efficient code for the product stack. The role includes writing and maintaining C code, developing system utilities, and working on OS-level interactions. The intern will also assist in building tools for automation and optimization. The internship will help to understand how infrastructure is designed to be reliable, testable, and scalable.

About the Role

We’re looking for an intern to work alongside our core engineering team, focusing on AI, Cloud, C programming and contributing to the foundational infrastructure code that powers our entire product stack. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working close to the hardware, optimizing performance, and writing clean, efficient code that others build on.

What you’ll do

Write and maintain C code that forms the backbone of our infrastructure stack.
Develop basic system utilities, libraries, and abstractions used throughout the product.
Work on memory management, file I/O, IPC, and other OS-level interactions.
Assist in building and refining tools for automation, monitoring, and diagnostics.
Optimize code for performance, portability, and maintainability.
Contribute to internal documentation and technical standards.

Who You Are

Strong understanding of C programming and computer architecture basics.
Comfortable working in a Linux environment (shell, Makefiles, GCC/Clang).
Familiar with debugging and profiling tools (e.g., gdb, Valgrind, strace).
Curious about how systems work under the hood—compilers, filesystems, networking, etc.
Attention to detail, strong debugging skills, and a desire to write robust, clean code.

Bonus Experience

Experience with scripting tools (Python, Bash, C) for testing or build automation.
Exposure to container environments (Docker) or embedded systems.

The the hourly compensation range targeted for this role based out of Gigamon's Santa Clara, CA, Headquarters office is $40.00 - $44.00/hr. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the Company’s compensation practices.
