About the job:
As a User Experience Research Intern at Google, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of Google products by gathering insights into user needs, attitudes, and behaviors. You will utilize various research methods, including usability studies, contextual inquiry, surveys, and more, to design and conduct independent research. You will work closely with design, engineering, and product management teams to ensure user-centric decision making and advocate research findings across the organization. You will also have the opportunity to collect and analyze user behavior through lab studies, field visits, ethnography, surveys, benchmark studies, server logs, and online experiments.
Must have:
  • Master's degree in Human Factors, Psychology, HCI, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Information Science, or related field.
  • Experience with research design utilizing various methods (e.g., usability studies, contextual inquiry, surveys, etc.).
Good to have:
  • Experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices.
  • Knowledge of statistics and experimental design.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Human Factors, Psychology, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Information Science, or related field.
  • Internship, work, or project experience with research design utilizing various methods (e.g., usability studies, contextual inquiry, surveys, etc.).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Currently attending a degree program in the US and available to work full time for 12 weeks outside of university term time.
  • In their penultimate academic year or returning to a degree program after completion of the internship.
  • Experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices.
  • Knowledge of statistics and experimental design.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $85,000-$109,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct independent research using a variety of qualitative research methods, utilizing quantitative methods when necessary.
  • Work cross-functionally with design, engineering, and product management to ensure teams makes user-centric, data-driven decisions.
  • Ensure effective communication of research findings and advocate findings outside of the project team.
  • Collect and analyze user behavior through lab studies, field visits, ethnography, surveys, benchmark studies, server logs and online experiments (A/B testing).
