Onward Search seeks a Freelance Accessibility Auditor/Tester to test and remediate websites for usability by people with disabilities. Responsibilities include partnering with engineering QA to build accessibility (A11y) into testing (manual and automated), using assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack), supporting 3rd-party audits, creating A11y user stories and defects, prioritizing A11y issues, analyzing validation test results, and advising on WCAG 2.0 AA, WCAG 2.1 AA, and WAI-ARIA. The ideal candidate has solid experience with assistive technologies, understands web accessibility standards, and is familiar with responsive web design and mobile app accessibility. This is a contract position located in Norwalk, Connecticut.
Must have:
  • Experience with screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.0 AA, WCAG 2.1 AA, and WAI-ARIA
  • A11y testing and remediation experience
  • Responsive web design and mobile app familiarity
Good to have:
  • SAFe environment experience
  • Knowledge of mobile accessibility best practices (Android/iOS)

Our clients are now looking for Freelance, Contract, Direct Hire Accessibility Auditor/Tester.

An Accessibility Auditor/Tester is responsible for testing and/or remediating a website to make sure it’s usable to people with disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Engineering QA in building A11y into manual and automated testing by helping understand how users experience products using Assistive Technology to test for and how to test to ensure feature functionality meets A11y AC (Acceptance Criteria).
  • Partner with Engineering QA during testing, ensuring A11y AC is being met by ensuring feature functionality has A11y AC written / available.
  • Support 3rd-Party Audits by reviewing 3rd-Party findings, test results, re-test, verify reported findings if reported issue is questionable.
  • Create A11y user stories, defects for A11y findings, help prioritize A11y issues with product and provide A11y context, guidance on how to remediate A11y findings.
  • Analyze validation test results looking for Rraining opportunities, engineering methods needing correction, components needing a11y refinements.

Qualifications:

  • Bring a depth of development and technical knowledge that complements and strengthens a culture beginning to apply a11y practices in design, engineering and QA.
  • Solid experience testing with all common screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, MAC/IOS VoiceOver, TalkBack), keyboard only, and other assistive technology.
  • Ability to interpret and advise on standards, principles and techniques for meeting accessibility success criteria (including WCAG 2.0 AA, WCAG 2.1 AA, and WAI-ARIA).
  • Familiarity with Responsive Web Design and mobile apps, fluency in the software development lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of supporting products in a SAFe environment specifically how current/future work is scheduled to come through planning, design, engineering and 3rd-party validation efforts.
  • Knowledge of mobile accessibility best practices on Android and iOS.

  • *To qualify for our benefits package, you must work over 30 hours per week and the length of assignment must be a minimum of 10 weeks.
