Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Application Performance Monitoring (APM) Specialist to join us. The APM Specialist will be responsible for implementing and maintaining monitoring solutions to ensure the optimal performance, availability, and reliability of our applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of application architecture, performance metrics, and APM tools. They will collaborate closely with development, operations, and infrastructure teams to identify performance issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement performance improvements.
This position is on a 24/7 rotation shift basis.
Responsibilities
- Develop monitoring dashboards and alerts to provide real-time visibility into application performance metrics, including response time, throughput, error rates, and resource utilisation.
- Analyse APM data to identify performance bottlenecks, root causes of issues, and opportunities for optimisation.
- Work closely with SRE and infrastructure teams to ensure proper configuration and deployment of APM agents and collectors.
- Organise incident response activities to diagnose and resolve performance-related issues in a timely manner.
- Conduct performance testing and analysis to assess the impact of changes and upgrades on application performance.
- Resolve support requests using the in-house applications, 3rd parties and following any required escalation procedures.
- Document APM best practices, procedures, and guidelines for the organisation.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in application performance monitoring.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Proven experience working with APM tools such as New Relic, Prometheus, Elastic
- Strong understanding of application architecture, including web servers, application servers, databases, and caching layers.
- Experience with containerised environments and orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, and SSL.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Experience with SQL is a plus
- Proficiency in Shell scripting.
