Job Description
As a Customer Engineer III, Application Modernization, you'll partner with technical business teams as a hybrid cloud expert, differentiating Google Cloud to customers. You'll help customers develop cloud solutions, conduct proof-of-concepts, and troubleshoot technical issues. Responsibilities include guiding customers through legacy application assessments, recommending modernization roadmaps, and identifying opportunities for hybrid-cloud migration. You'll also execute prototyping workshops, develop best practices, and document requirements. The role requires expertise in data center modernization, cloud-native architecture, application architectures, networking, microservices, and container orchestrators. Significant travel is expected.
Must have:
- 10+ years cloud native architecture & development experience
- Experience with architectural design patterns & platform engineering
- Experience engaging with technical & executive stakeholders
- Expertise in data center modernization and cloud-native architecture
- Proficient in cloud application architectures, networking, microservices, and container orchestrators
Good to have:
- Experience with API management, microservice frameworks, and PaaS
- Software development experience (Golang, Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript)
- Experience with custom Kubernetes Operators, Controllers, custom resources, webhooks
- Experience in Engineering and supporting ML Infrastructure

Job Details
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience with cloud native architecture and development methodologies (e.g., modernizing legacy applications and application performance profiling and tuning) in a customer-facing or support role.
- Experience with architectural design patterns, platform engineering (e.g., Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, image management or repository management), virtualization deployments, container deployments, application security, or networking.
- Experience in engaging with, and presenting to, technical stakeholders and executive leaders.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with developing scalable architectures using API management, microservice frameworks, and PaaS.
- Experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g. Golang, Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
- Experience with custom Kubernetes Operators, Controllers, custom resources, webhooks.
- Experience prospecting, building and maintaining collaborative customer relationships from inception with engineers and engineering leadership stakeholders.
- Experience in Engineering and supporting ML Infrastructure, systems, and frameworks, including performance engineering and optimization for large-scale training.

You will have experience with data center environments as it relates to modernization, and cloud-native architecture. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$218,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Work with the team to identify and qualify business opportunities, understand customer technical objections, and develop the strategy to resolve technical blockers.
- Share in-depth infrastructure and cloud modernization expertise to support the technical relationship with customers, including technology advocacy, supporting bid responses, product and solution briefings, proof-of-concept work, and partnering with product management to prioritize solutions impacting customer adoption to Google Cloud.
- Guide customers through assessments of their legacy application environments, provide recommendations on a prioritization roadmap for application modernization, and identify opportunities for migration to hybrid-cloud computing models.
- Structure and execute prototyping workshops to verify proposed architectures, developing best practices, and documenting blocking requirements for prioritization with engineering.
- Travel to customer sites, conferences, and other related events as required, acting as a public advocate for Google Cloud.
