Job Description

The Data Center Technician II at Google in Saint-Ghislain, Belgium, is responsible for installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining server hardware and software within Google's data center infrastructure. This includes working with servers, components, networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. The role involves participation in or leading small project teams for installations, developing contingency plans, and handling the physical installation of racks. Troubleshooting escalated technical issues and contributing to projects related to data center infrastructure deployment and support are key responsibilities. Experience with Linux operating systems and server hardware is highly valued.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Operating systems & networking protocols experience
Server hardware troubleshooting/diagnosing
Installation, configuration, testing, maintenance

Good to have:

Server systems maintenance & monitoring
Data center/network operation center experience
Linux OS experience
Project management & leadership
Collaboration & teamwork

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with operating systems and networking protocols.
Experience with computer hardware and server hardware or troubleshooting/diagnosing.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems.
Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
Experience with Linux operating systems.
Experience in project management and leadership.
Ability to collaborate and partner with teams to overcome issues.

Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As an Operations Technician, you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). You'll also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. You'll participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. A typical day involves manual movement and installation of racks, and while it can sometimes be physically demanding, you are excited to work with infrastructure that is at the cutting-edge of computer technology.

As a Data Center Technician, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (e.g., servers and its components) and server software (e.g., Google's Linux cluster). You will work on the configuration of components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. You will also participate or lead project teams on installations and develop project contingency plans. In addition, you will be involved in the manual movement and installation of racks.

Responsibilities

Lead troubleshooting and resolve escalated technical issues regarding affected equipment.
Contribute to and lead efforts/projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of data center infrastructure.
Help test and troubleshoot server hardware components and designs.
Configure and troubleshoot OS-related issues on server.
