Framestore is a fast paced, dynamic and fun post-production company producing world-class visual effects for films. We are currently looking for a Department Manager for our Mumbai office. Our new team member needs to be a problem solver, facilitator, positive with team management skills.
Reporting into the Head of Resource Management, and working closely with production, supervision and department heads, the Department Manager will work as part of the resourcing team to ensure that VFX projects are crewed with the best available internal crew. They are also responsible for developing, managing, and retaining the best artists for our film teams.
Key Responsibilities:
o Working with the departmental Creative heads, the Department Manager will liaise with Producers and Supervisors/Leads to resource VFX Projects with the best available crew.
o Discuss the progress of the work on each show with local Production and site Supervisor/Lead and plan resources for those shows.
o When necessary, negotiate with Producers and reallocate crew to achieve the best, cross-project allocation of crew.
o Take responsibility for departmental inductions along with the department creative head
o The first point of contact for all crew members, particularly on administrative matters, project allocation, leaves and any training needs.
o Managing multi-site communication with show producers relevant to resource changes and allocations in respective shows
o Managing internal department meetings along with creative heads as well as managing weekly target schedules and weekly resource related reports. Following up on meeting matters as and when required.
o Work closely with the Head of Resources to manage any other communication and matters as and when needed.
o Acting as the primary contact for show production regarding the progress of the work, communicating daily with the Mumbai production team regarding changes to priorities, etc. and keeping the show producer updated about any changes in resources on their shows.
o Alongside project supervisors/ leads or heads of department, conduct performance reviews and appraisals, maintaining records of effective feedback and constructive criticism
o Liaise with the production team to manage any vacation requests and make sure time off is approved/ accommodated by the show. Provide immediate/ regular Holiday coverage for any leaves wherever it is possible.
o Working alongside the creative head and the training team to follow through on training and development needs and assist with building the training reports for internal learning events as appropriate, sharing the same with the Head of Resources and management team
o Work with the Head of Department and Head of Resources to handle disciplinary issues and dismissals.
o Work closely with the Head of Resources and Creative Heads to ensure teams are well balanced in terms of expertise, experience and skills.
o Be involved in the recruitment drives through social media and direct contacts.
o Work closely with local Head of Resources to generate accurate reports.
Essential Skills:
○ 5+ years in VFX/CG companies, in Production/crewing/managing teams
○ Previous experience with scheduling crew/projects is essential for this role
○ A thorough understanding of the VFX and CG Pipeline
○ Skilled in Microsoft Excel and Shotgun
○ Strong Communication
○ Strong attention to detail to ensure all documents and reports are
maintained at the highest level
Desirable Skills:
○ Ability to keep the artist team's morale high by organizing social and team building Events.
○ Problem solving skills, particularly when resolving resources and crewing issues
○ Negotiation skills and diplomacy
○ A proven ability to establish good relationships with creative heads
○ An understanding of how to build a successful team around a core
○ Pastoral care skills to ensure artists feel supported and have trust in you
○ Self motivated to take on a broad range of tasks
○ Ability to prioritise work so as to ensure efficient utilisation
○ Ability to create and develop various departmental reports
