About the role
As a Senior Technical Artist with a focus on shaders, your mission is to enhance the visual quality and performance of our games by focusing on shader development, rendering optimization, and lighting techniques. You will be instrumental in building advanced shader systems, solving complex technical issues, and mentoring the art team on best practices in Unity. This role allows you to work across multiple projects, contributing to a central tech art team, where you'll create scalable, high-performance visual solutions that enhance the visual experience while optimizing for target platforms.
- Develop and maintain advanced shaders and rendering pipelines for optimized game performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve shader-related technical issues, collaborating with art, design, and engineering teams.
- Lead the implementation of lighting techniques and visual effects to ensure high visual fidelity across platforms.
- Mentor and guide other technical artists, sharing best practices in shader development and performance optimization.
- Build scalable tools and shaders that can be applied across multiple projects.
What you’ll achieve
- A set of shader and rendering pipelines optimized for performance and visual quality, usable across multiple projects.
- Effective collaboration between the art, design, and engineering teams to maintain a consistent visual style and ensure smooth asset integration.
- Up-to-date technical documentation for shader systems, rendering optimizations, and lighting techniques, shared with the team to promote best practices.
- Mentorship and guidance to other technical artists, enhancing the team’s overall shader expertise.
What you’ll need to be successful
- Extensive experience in shader authoring, with proficiency in HLSL, GLSL, or Cg for high-quality visual output.
- Strong knowledge of rendering optimization and lighting techniques in Unity.
- Deep understanding of performance profiling and optimization of shaders, particles, and VFX for mobile and web-based games.
- Ability to collaborate with other departments, including art, design, and engineering, to solve complex technical challenges and maintain visual consistency.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize shaders and rendering pipelines for maximum performance.
- Excellent mentorship and communication skills, with the ability to guide junior artists and share knowledge across teams.
- Additional technical art skills such as rigging and tools/pipeline development are a big plus.
