Job Description

The Engineering Manager for Chrome Browser Infrastructure at Google is responsible for owning the crash and performance pipelines of the Chrome browser. Good To Have:
  • Master's or PhD in Engineering/Computer Science
  • 5+ years experience in complex organizations
  • 5+ years Cloud Computing or Linux development experience
Must Have:
  • 8+ years full-stack development experience
  • 3+ years technical leadership
  • 2+ years people management
  • Expertise in Java, Python, Go, C++, JavaScript, TypeScript
  • Ownership of Chrome crash and performance pipelines

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, GO, or C++ codebases, and front-end including JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • 5 years of experience with Cloud Computing or with Linux development environment.

As an Engineering Manager, you will own the Chrome Browser crash and performance pipelines. You will review every single commit to Chrome for all platforms and generate high confidence in performance and crash. You will have to make sure that code contributions from the broader open source community are safe and stable enough to release. You will be developing new features to ensure every change lands improving/maintaining Chromes performance and quality. Some of the problems which you have to handle are, smart analysis of crashes, prevent performance regressions at landing and shortening the time from detection of issues to fix.

Responsibilities

  • Design, guide and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems. 
  • Drive the long-term technical direction and lead the team in both building new features and improving the engineering quality of existing systems to enable Chrome developers execution.
  • Mentor engineers on the team to accelerate their development and our capacity to do great work.
  • Lead team execution of projects to deliver quality software on schedule using light-weight tools like sprint planning, issue tracking, and regular sync meetings.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including engineering teams, data scientists, and leadership on evaluating product health and proposing next level goals to improve execution of Chrome engineer and adjacent systems.
