Job Description

As a Lead Level Artist, you will be responsible for creating captivating 3D environments for AAA games. You will be an environment architect, a visual storyteller, and an experience maker. You will be responsible for leading a team of artists, planning and coordinating the creation of environment modules and materials, supervising the creation of structure, terrain, props, and their integration into the level until final polish. You will collaborate with the Art Director and Level Designer to understand game intentions and vision, perform research and create briefs in collaboration with a concept artist. You will also be responsible for integrating built assets into the game engine to set and dress a polished scene. You will ensure that the artistic direction and level gameplay are respected.
Must have:
  • Proven experience leading a team of artists
  • Mastering of level creation, editing, and performance optimization
  • Planning and coordinating environment modules and materials creation
  • Supervising structure, terrain, and props creation
  • Collaborating with Art Director and Level Designer
  • Research and brief creation with a concept artist
  • Integrating built assets into the game engine
  • Ensuring artistic direction and level gameplay alignment
  • At least 4 years of experience as a Level Artist
  • Experience in adjacent fields (modeling, texturing, lighting)
  • Excellent communication skills and team motivation
  • Knowledge of video game development process
  • Mastering of art fundamentals (lighting, staging, layout)
  • Mastering of Unreal, Unity, or any game engine
  • Visual, production, and technical problem-solving
  • Passion for quality and production techniques
  • Self-motivation and initiative
  • English fluency for international team collaboration
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and resourcefulness

As a Lead Level Artist, you will create captivating 3D environments for AAA games. You will be an environment architect, a visual storyteller, and an experience maker wrapped into one. 

Even within a given framework, you can push creative boundaries – and you have the artistic ability to do so. You know how to modify lighting, create basic place-holders, play around with composition and add just the right amount of detail to develop a game space with plenty of personality. 

The ideal candidate has a strong technical understanding of environment asset and level creation, can communicate with other disciplines within the development team and is able to take creative direction from the Art Director. In the end, he/she could become a reference point and a mentor for other level artists. 

Responsibilities

  • Proven experience in leading a team of artists 
  • Master the creation, editing and performance optimization of level 
  • Plan and coordinate the creation of environment modules and materials 
  • Supervise the creation of structure, terrain, props and their integration in the level until final polish 
  • Collaborate with the Art Director and Level Designer to understand game intentions and vision 
  • Perform research and create brief in collaboration with a concept artist. 
  • Integrate built assets into the game engine to set and dress a polished scene. 
  • Ensure that the artistic direction and level gameplay is respected. 

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of experience as a Level Artist on AAA quality, plus at least one significant experience as a Manager or Lead. 
  • Experience in adjacent fields such as modelling, texturing, lighting or material creation  
  • Great communication skills and the ability to positively motivate a team 
  • Excellent knowledge of video game development process and interactions between the artistic, design and technical jobs; 
  • Mastering of art fundamentals: lighting, staging, layout, etc. 
  • Mastering and production experience of Unreal, Unity or any game engine 
  • Ability to find solutions from a visual, production and technical perspective 
  • Passion for pushing quality further and refining production techniques 
  • High degree of self-motivation and initiative 
  • At ease working in English with an international team 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and resourcefulness
