Summary

The Manager, Data Center Engineer is responsible for the strategic planning, design, operation, and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment within the Data Center, ensuring better than 99.999% uptime for mission-critical servers. Responsibilities include working with subordinates, defining projects and goals, managing contractors and vendors, maintaining equipment contracts, ensuring proper power distribution and prompt equipment repairs, and obtaining necessary permits. The role requires expertise in datacenter design and operations, high-voltage systems, generators, CRAC systems, and building codes. Project and budget management experience is also crucial.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 9+ years datacenter operations and design experience
  • 3+ years management experience
  • Expert knowledge of datacenter equipment
  • High-voltage system expertise (UPS, PDU, transformer)
  • Generator and CRAC system expertise
  • Knowledge of building and fire codes

Job Summary: The Manager, Data Center Engineer is responsible for contributing in the strategic planning of the design, operation, and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment within the Data Center. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. The incumbent will also be responsible for vendor selection and various contract negotiations.
 
Work Location: Onsite at our datacenter located in Richardson, TX.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Works with subordinates to define projects, goals, and objectives, acts as an advisor and mentor.
    • Ensure proper distribution of power within the facility and to equipment racks.
    • Ensure prompt repair of any failed or degraded equipment.
    • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of all equipment.
    • Ensure prompt repair of any failed or degraded equipment.
    • Manage contractors and vendors that perform work in the Data Centers.
    • Institute and maintain maintenance contracts for equipment.
    • Ensure that all necessary permits are obtained.
    • Uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. 

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering. Additional experience may substitute for the degree.
    • Minimum of 9 years experience in datacenter operations and design.
    • 3 years of management experience.
    • Expert knowledge of the design, operation, and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment within a datacenter.
    • Expert knowledge of high voltage filtered systems including UPS, PDU, transformer, etc.
    • Advanced/Expert knowledge of generators.
    • Advanced/Expert knowledge of CRAC systems.
    • Knowledgeable of local building and fire codes and regulations.
    • Experience in leading projects and managing within a budget.
