Job Description

The Security Manager of Training and Development leads and manages the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of security training programs across the cruise line. Responsibilities include designing and delivering comprehensive training programs for all security personnel (onboard and shoreside), ensuring compliance with maritime security regulations (ISPS Code, SOLAS, etc.), and leading a team of training coordinators. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with a deep understanding of maritime security and training methodologies. The manager will also evaluate training effectiveness, conduct drills and simulations, maintain detailed records, and report to senior management. The position requires regular travel to ships and ports.

Job Summary:

Security Manager of Training & Development

The Security Manager of Training and Development will lead and manage the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of security training programs across the cruise line. This position is responsible for ensuring that all security personnel, both onboard and shoreside, receive the necessary training to maintain a high level of operational readiness, meet regulatory requirements, and uphold the safety and security of passengers, crew, and assets. The Security Manager will work closely with senior leadership, department heads, and training coordinators to design and deliver effective training programs, while also monitoring compliance and evaluating the effectiveness of training initiatives.

This role is crucial for creating a knowledgeable and well-prepared security workforce, ensuring that the cruise line meets global safety standards and provides a secure and safe environment for all stakeholders. Be A Part Of The Story and Apply Today!

A Day in the life of a Security Manager of Training & Development…

  • Training Program Development & Management:
    • Design, develop, implement, and deliver comprehensive security training programs for new hires and ongoing development for current security personnel, ensuring they are aligned with industry standards and company policies.
    • Primary responsibility for overseeing, auditing, and refining ship and island Security training for all cast and crew.
    • Regularly assess and update training programs to address emerging security threats, regulatory changes, and best practices.
    • Ensure all security training materials are current, engaging, and effective, utilizing various methods such as e-learning, in-person workshops, simulations, and drills.
    • Assist the Director of Security and Emergency Management and the Manager of Security Operations and Development in providing training and guidance for Shipboard Security Officers, onboard security staff and shore staff in all areas of security operations, including Drug and Alcohol testing and training, specialized equipment training and any other training deemed relevant for the role.
    • Assessment of external training providers to verify company standards of training and consistency are achieved.
    • Oversee vendor registration process and purchase orders for external training providers.
       
  • Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:
    • Ensure that training programs meet compliance requirements set by maritime security regulations, including the ISPS Code, SOLAS, Bahamas Maritime Authority, and other relevant industry standards.
    • Track and maintain records of training certifications and qualifications for all security personnel, ensuring adherence to both internal policies and external regulatory bodies.
       
  • Team Leadership & Coordination:
    • Lead a team of training coordinators and facilitators, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
    • Collaborate with shipboard security teams and shoreside departments to ensure training delivery is consistent and effective across all locations.
    • Manage training schedules, coordinate resources, and ensure that training programs are accessible to all personnel, including those working remotely or on vessels.
       
  • Assessment & Continuous Improvement:
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, performance metrics, and incident analysis.
    • Sail regularly onboard vessels providing support, consistency, and continuous review of security training and safety operations onboard.
    • Conduct post-training evaluations and identify areas for improvement or additional training needs.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, new security technologies, and evolving threats, ensuring that training content remains relevant and impactful.
    • Provide input to the Director Security and Emergency Management for the training and development of ship and shore personnel.
       
  • Incident Response & Crisis Management:
    • Ensure that all security personnel are adequately trained in emergency procedures, including crisis management, security breaches, and threat mitigation.
    • Facilitate drills, simulations, and tabletop exercises to prepare personnel for real-world scenarios and ensure readiness for a variety of security incidents.
       
  • Reporting & Documentation:
    • Maintain detailed training records and reports, providing regular updates to senior management on training progress, compliance, and areas of concern.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of all training sessions, certifications, and evaluations for auditing and reporting purposes.
       

What you will need to succeed:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in security management, with at least 2 years in a training and development role, preferably within the maritime, cruise, or hospitality industry.
    • Proven experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs for security personnel.
    • Strong knowledge of maritime security regulations, safety protocols, and crisis management procedures.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficient in using training management systems, e-learning platforms, and MS Office Suite.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess situations and develop effective training solutions.
    • Ability to travel to various locations, including ships and ports, for training delivery and coordination.
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
    • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
       

Education is important to us, here is what we are looking for…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Education, Learning & Development, Maritime or experience in a related field.

It Would be a plus if you had these skills…

  • Additional certifications in security or training Certified Security Training Manager (CSTM) ISPS (International Ship & Port Facility Security), CVSSA (Cruise Vessel Security & Safety Act) certifications are a plus.
