Job Description

The Senior Compliance Officer at Tesla's Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg will ensure compliance with permit requirements, building regulations, and operational safety standards (Betriebssicherheit). Responsibilities include overseeing permit acquisition and maintenance, conducting safety audits, implementing a comprehensive Compliance Management System (ISO 37301), developing compliance documentation, identifying and mitigating compliance risks, and acting as a liaison between various teams. The role requires in-depth knowledge of building law, the Betriebssicherheitsverordnung, and risk assessment methodologies. The successful candidate will prepare compliance reports for senior management and lead compliance training sessions.

Senior Compliance Officer (m/f/d) is a key role focused on ensuring stringent compliance with permit requirements, building regulations, and operational safety standards (Betriebssicherheit). This position requires a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, as well as a proactive and strategic approach to compliance management. The Senior Compliance Officer will establish and maintain a comprehensive Compliance Management System aligned with ISO 37301, systematically identifying and mitigating compliance risks to ensure that all factory operations are conducted in a legally sound and safe manner.
What You’ll Do
  • You lead the oversight of all permit acquisition, maintenance, and compliance activities to ensure adherence to local, state, and local building regulations.
  • Conduct rigorous reviews of building plans like brown field and green field project proposals to guarantee that all necessary permits are secured prior to project initiation, mitigating potential delays and legal issues.
  • Stay abreast of changes in building law and permit requirements, providing timely guidance to stakeholders to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • You oversee compliance with the Betriebssicherheitsverordnung (Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health) by performing regular safety audits, assessments, and compliance checks across operations.
  • Establish, implement, and oversee a comprehensive Compliance Management System aligned with ISO 37301, ensuring integration of compliance processes and procedures into the factory's operational framework.
  • Develop standardized compliance documentation, including policies, procedures, and training materials, to ensure consistent application of compliance standards across all Technical Service departments.
  • Proactively identify compliance risks related to permit requirements and building laws, employing robust risk assessment methodologies to evaluate potential impacts on operations.
  • You develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions to address identified compliance gaps, ensuring prompt resolution of issues.
  • Serve as the primary link between the Technical Service team, Permit team, and Environment, Health, and Safety team, facilitating seamless communication regarding compliance requirements and responsibilities.
  • Lead regular compliance meetings and training sessions to ensure alignment on regulatory expectations and compliance initiatives across all departments.
  • Conduct comprehensive compliance audits of projects at various stages, ensuring that all activities meet established regulatory and safety standards before proceeding to operational launch and maintenance.
  • Prepare detailed compliance reports for senior management, outlining audit findings, compliance status, and recommendations for improvements.


What You’ll Bring
  • Master of Business Law, or a related field; an advanced degree or relevant certification (e.g., ISO 37301, TUV Compliance Officer) is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in compliance management, specifically focusing on building law, permit compliance, and operational safety standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks, including building permits, the Betriebssicherheitsverordnung, and related safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in risk assessment, compliance audits, and the development of compliance management systems.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with a proven ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Fluent in English and German
