Job Description

As a Senior Health & Safety Manager, you will lead a team to implement the Wabtec Management System at the Erie campus. You will provide leadership, technical support, and training for the site strategic EHS plan. Key responsibilities include leading industrial hygiene and chemical management programs, overseeing the EHS training program, and developing strategies to reduce workplace injuries. You will also initiate new programs, support safety committees, and leverage the interface between business teams and medical staff to drive cost reductions and lower injury rates. The role involves developing and implementing effective EHS electronic applications and building positive relationships with regulators. The job involves supporting environmental programs and compliance efforts. The job also requires a clear vision and action plan for all levels and require good communication skills.
Must have:
  • BS in an EHS field of study
  • 7 to 10 years EHS experience
Good to have:
  • MS in an EHS field of study, project management, or MBA
  • CSP/ASP or other advanced EHS related certification
  • Prior VPP experience preferred (Special Government Employee designation)
  • Articulates a clear vision and action plan
  • Deep knowledge of compliance and industry best practices
  • Strong team building, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills
  • Accomplishments that reflect teamwork, integrity, accountability and speed

As a Senior Health & Safety Manager you will lead a diverse health and safety team to successfully implement the Wabtec Management System at the Erie campus.  

What do we want to know about you?

Do you have: 

  • BS in an EHS field of study

  • 7 to 10 years EHS experience 

Desired Characteristics:

  • MS in an EHS field of study, project management, or MBA

  • CSP/ASP or other advanced EHS related certification.

  • Prior VPP experience preferred (Special Government Employee designation)

  • Articulates a clear vision and action plan to all levels; gains buy in from key stakeholders on EHS processes.

  • Deep knowledge of compliance and industry best practices.

  • Strong team building, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills. 

  • Accomplishments that reflect teamwork, integrity, accountability and speed. 

What will your typical day look like?

  • Provide leadership, technical support, and training for the site strategic EHS plan and WMS.

  • Lead the industrial hygiene and chemical management programs.

  • Lead the site EHS training program and provide direct technical support to the operations site training program.

  • Bring vision and creativity to new strategies, and refine existing strategies, to reduce or eliminate workplace injuries. 

  • Initiate new programs, standardization, accountability systems, and implementation of best practices. 

  • Support the safety steering committee and safety coordinator programs.

  • Lead EHS-TA development opportunities, such as HOP, VPP Special Government Employee, and subject matter development.

  • Leverage the interface between business teams, medical, and EHS to drive cost reductions in workers’ compensation and lower injury rates.

  • Develop and implement effective use of EHS electronic applications.

  • Develop a proactive and positive relationship with regulators, including support of VPP.

  • Support environmental programs and compliance efforts.

Our job titles may span more than one career level.  The salary range for this role is between

$89,100.00-$126,900.00

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include an annual bonus, if eligible.
