Why PlayStation?

PlayStation isn’t just the Best Place to Play — it’s also the Best Place to Work. Today, we’re recognized as a global leader in entertainment producing The PlayStation family of products and services including PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®VR, PlayStation®Plus, acclaimed PlayStation software titles from PlayStation Studios, and more.

PlayStation also strives to create an inclusive environment that empowers employees and embraces diversity. We welcome and encourage everyone who has a passion and curiosity for innovation, technology, and play to explore our open positions and join our growing global team.

The PlayStation brand falls under Sony Interactive Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation.

Staff Product Manager, Innovation

We are looking for an experienced and innovative Staff Product Manager to join our team! In this role you will be responsible for helping a cross-functional team of like-minded individuals create value for new kinds of customers that SIE has not traditionally served, taking new opportunities from 0→1.

You’ll work to discover valuable problems to solve for a variety of customers, collaborate to identify concepts that solve them in a way that creates opportunity for SIE, and develop them towards investment and/or formal productization. Beyond helping to shape the products themselves, you’ll contribute to the development and testing of business models, the assessment of market size and target customers, financial modeling and projection, and how to best set up new products and businesses for success.

You should be passionate about learning through scrappy testing and experimentation, adept at using data to inform decision-making, and comfortable working through ambiguity with an ability to wear lots of hats. Experience in customer and market research, new product incubation, product strategy & specification, and go-to-market planning is highly desired. The ability to champion and promote new ideas is essential, as is the ability to be humble and leave them behind.

The Team

As trailblazers, innovation is in SIE’s DNA. In the Platform Experience Group (PEG), we pursue it with intention, from multiple angles, with curious people empowered and activated through processes optimized for exploration, discovery, and invention. You’ll join a unique team that is chartered to explore new ways to transform and diversify our business into new areas with a focus on new customers needing new solutions, while remaining true to SIE’s central mission. We are passionate about the power of play (defined broadly) and being inspired by players and creators of all stripes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and propose new areas of exploration for customer needs and potential solutions within identified strategic themes

  • Synthesize market trends, customer insights, and informed hypotheses into requirements for further research and experiments

  • Set learning goals, create and manage KPIs and metrics for tests and experiments

  • Partner cross-functionally to create and manage development plans for experiments and prototypes including resource allocation, timelines, and budgets

  • Drive prioritization and product development direction for solutions as they mature through various phases of early customer feedback cycles

  • Define target customer profiles and segments through synthesis of research insights

  • Facilitate or drive development of associated business opportunities and approach including market sizing, value proposition, and appropriate business models for solutions

  • Create business models, financial models, and go-to-market strategies that effectively communicate the viability of brand new products and businesses.

  • Collaborate with designers and researchers to establish critical path jobs to be done for target customers of a product solution

  • Craft product strategies for maturing solutions to drive towards product market fit

Required Qualifications, Skills, & Experience:

  • 7+ years combined experience in product management and new business development and/or operations, with a focus on brand new product development or product incubation highly desired.

  • Career and/or educational background in business, finance, marketing, or related disciplines. Graduate level business degree (e.g. MBA) highly preferred.

  • Background in engineering, design, market research, or user research is a big bonus.

  • Demonstrated experience creating pitch decks, business models, financial projections, go-to-market strategies, and similar deliverables.

  • History of operating with a start-up mentality, thinking and acting creatively. Actual startup experience—as a founder or early-stage employee—is a big plus.

  • An ambitious self-starter who deals well with ambiguity, able to be a generalist who can jump in and wear lots of hats to build something from scratch.

  • Strong analytical abilities and proclivity for testing with demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems using experimentation and data to inform decision-making.

  • Highly collaborative and adaptable, able to quickly adjust direction based on new learnings or changing circumstances.

  • Excellent communicator, able to inspire and excite stakeholders team members and stakeholders around customer problems and solutions that are non-obvious.

  • Solid business sense with basic abilities to size a market and quantify an opportunity with imperfect or incomplete information.

  • Experience in working with a wide array of partners across organizations, including design, engineering, project management, data + research teams, legal, and marketing.
