Job Description

As a Staff Security Engineer, you will lead complex security initiatives across Opendoor's cloud-native environment. You will collaborate with IT and engineering teams to design and implement robust security controls, balancing innovation and risk. You will be a key technical leader, shaping the security posture in a fast-moving technology company with diverse infrastructure, including AWS, GCP, and Azure. This includes designing and implementing secure architecture for cloud-native applications, developing and maintaining security standards, automation, and monitoring systems. You will also partner with engineering teams to conduct security reviews, threat modeling, and risk assessments, as well as drive security incident response and perform root cause analysis.
Must have:
  • 6+ years of security engineering experience
  • Deep understanding of cloud security in AWS/GCP environments
  • Strong coding skills and experience implementing security automation
  • Experience with identity and access management solutions, especially Okta
  • Ability to communicate complex security concepts
  • Experience securing Mac and Windows environments
  • Familiarity with real estate technology or fintech security requirements

About the Role

You'll join Opendoor's Security team to lead complex security initiatives across our cloud-native environment. As a Staff Security Engineer, you'll collaborate with IT and engineering teams to design and implement robust security controls while balancing innovation and risk. You'll be a key technical leader shaping our security posture in a fast-moving technology company with diverse infrastructure spanning AWS, GCP, and Azure.

What You’ll Need 

  • 6+ years of security engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership capacity
  • Deep understanding of cloud security in AWS/GCP environments and containerized workloads (Kubernetes)
  • Strong coding skills and experience implementing security automation and tooling
  • Experience with identity and access management solutions, particularly Okta
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex security concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience securing both Mac and Windows environments in a hybrid infrastructure setting
  • Familiarity with real estate technology or fintech security requirements
  • Security certifications (CISSP, CSSLP, AWS/GCP security certifications)

What You’ll Do

  • Lead end-to-end security projects across multiple teams, providing technical direction and mentorship to junior security engineers.
  • Design and implement secure architecture for cloud-native applications, with a focus on AWS/GCP environments and Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain security standards, automation, and monitoring systems to provide visibility across our technology stack
  • Partner with engineering teams to conduct security reviews, threat modeling, and risk assessments for new products and features
  • Drive security incident response, performing root cause analysis and implementing long-term remediation strategies

Compensation

The base pay range for this position
is $158,400 - $217,800 annually, plus RSUs and bonuses. Pay
within this range varies by work location
and may also depend on your qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We also offer a comprehensive package of benefits including unlimited PTO, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees.
