Job Summary

A Test Engineer is an expert in testing and quality, and ensures these practices are embedded in the development of software changes from design to release. Through collaboration with the whole team, they aim to deliver an exceptional customer experience of both new and existing products at the first attempt.

They test the product, coach the team in best test practices, coach and mentor test engineers across different product groups, and drive the implementation of effective test automation. The Test Engineer will identify and drive improvements to engineering practices and ways of working. Their proactive involvement ensures that testing is part of the conversation from the beginning, aligning with our Test Vision and reduces downstream risks and costs associated with late defect discover

A Test Engineer is the go-to person for major and complex work projects, contributes to implementing strategic test engineering initiatives within their team, and works with the team to prevent defects and rework of changes occurring. They champion Booking.com's customers, ensure non-functional testing is planned and executed, and make sure the right features are delivered in the right way.

Key Skills

  • Experience in Pega application development, testing, and deployment, with a focus on automated testing tools.
  • Ability to model and execute processes using Pega BPM (CRM)
  • Knowledge of Pega's guardrails
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a high technological environment in a similar role
  • Experience with one or more of the following programming languages is essential (note: candidates will be assessed with a coding challenge): Python, Perl, Java, Javascript
  • Experience with automated testing tools and frameworks such as Appium/Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, TestNG, Rest-Assured, or similar, and can independently implement.
  • Familiarity with API testing tools like Postman or similar.
  • Experience with fully automated CI/CD pipeline, working with CI & source control tools & using Jenkins, GitHub, Gitlab, Octopus, TFS/other.
  • Experience in choosing the right test framework in accordance with the needs of the project.
  • Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals, algorithms, and data structures
  • Passionate about Continuous Improvement, Innovation, New technologies.
  • Clear understanding of various software testing methodologies : unit, integration, smoke, performance, stress, load, regression, acceptance, usability, security etc.
  • Strong knowledge of SOA/Microservices and web architecture and experience around distributed systems.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with mentoring and training other developers on software quality topics.
  • Strong work ethic.


Key Responsibilities.

  • Embed automation testing in the development process, where applicable;
  • Support the CI/CD efforts, proposes test automation tooling and infrastructure and works with developers to build and maintain it;
  • Actively contribute to the tech strategy by providing valuable insights on test automation and software quality in general;
  • Stay up to date with new test automation technology and plan strategically for possible changes;
  • Sometimes you will go technically deep and write automated tests that are resilient to changes in the applications UI;
  • Become the ‘Go to’ person for the test automation topic for both business and tech stakeholders;
  • Working with development teams to understand the business needs and identify the quality requirements;
  • You keep your cool and see possible outages as a critical learning opportunity to improve;
  • Inspire developers, Designers and Product Owners to be quality conscious by providing extensive trainings and workshops about testing culture and best practices;
  • Show that testing is a shared responsibility, have the ability to collaborate, demonstrate, and incorporate testing feedback quickly with the rest of the team
  • Plan and prioritise the different strategies according to business needs;
  • Evaluate our internal testing tools and introduce new ones in order to improve ROI
