POSITION SUMMARY:
The
U.S.-Mexico Border Engagement Internship offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in advocacy and education around immigration policy and humanitarian response at the Southern border. Interns will work closely with World Relief’s Border Engagement Director to support Border Immersion programming, policy research, and cross-sector advocacy initiatives. This role is ideal for those passionate about immigration, justice, and amplifying stories from border communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with research and writing on border-related immigration policy and humanitarian issues.
- Draft educational materials, policy briefs, and digital content for Border Immersion and advocacy use.
- Support the planning and coordination of Border Immersion learning groups, including participants preparation and logistics.
- Monitor news and policy developments impacting the U.S.-Mexico border.
- Contribute to social media strategy and storytelling to highlight border narratives.
- Attend relevant webinars, coalition calls, or advocacy meetings and provide summaries or notes.
- Provide general support to the Director of Border Engagement and Policy & Advocacy team, as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- A mature and personal Christian faith committed to service marginalized communities.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy, Theology, Communications, or a related field.
- Strong research, writing and analytical skills with an ability to translate field observations into impactful policy recommendations.
- Passionate about humanitarian work, social justice, border advocacy, and policy change.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using virtual collaboration tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with the U.S. immigration policy, refugee issues, or challenges facing border communities is highly desirable.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are considered a plus due to the nature of regional cross-border work.
