Job Description:

As a VFX Artist, you will be responsible for the creation of high-quality visual effects for a new, unannounced game at Blizzard.
You will have the opportunity to be a part of an exciting art team, bringing to life many exciting moments with the VFX you create for both core gameplay and meta.

You will be partnering with experienced artists, animators, technical artists, and gameplay designers to create extraordinary VFX within our game's universe that will be experienced by players around the world. The role will be complex, creative, and fun with loads of opportunities to hone your skills and try new things.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the team to develop in-game visual effects that align with the project's objectives, game vision, and player expectations, adhering to the designated art style.
  • Work in close coordination with designers to guarantee that the VFX seamlessly complement game design requirements.
  • Engage with the planning for the project, ensuring your VFX are delivered according to its needs.
  • Work with all crafts needed to ensure your VFX are delivered to a specification that offers great on-device performance, within the required technical budgets.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Proficient in crafting high-quality VFX, in both 2D and 3D, animating them and implementing them into a game.
  • Experience in how VFX fits into the production of game development in collaboration with other crafts and disciplines, especially visual development, tech art, graphics, and gameplay.
  • Experience in creating exciting VFX while balancing visuals to enhance readable gameplay.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to work within a given style to conceptualize, create, animate, and implement VFX in-game.
  • A good understanding of the fundamentals of great VFX, including (but not limited to) timing, physics, linear vs non-linear motion, color theory, etc.
  • Knowledge of environmental effects, simulations, lighting, and dynamics.
  • The ability to create original texture sprites and sprite sheets to create particle effects.
  • Good knowledge of industry-standard applications such as:
    • Adobe Suite (Photoshop, After Effects etc.).
    • Maya, Max, and Z-brush (Maya preferred).
    • Game development tools such as Unity or Unreal.
    • 2D animation packages such as Spine.
  • Knowledge of technical constraints, optimization, and implementation techniques for VFX in both 2D and 3D.
