Job Description

As an Acoustic Hardware Engineer at Google, you will lead the setup and calibration of audio test systems and manage labs and chambers. You'll use audio test setups for various devices (hearables, phones, etc.) and develop machine learning models. Responsibilities include setting up and maintaining audio/acoustics lab equipment, calibrating audio test systems, designing test scenarios, analyzing data, preparing reports, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The role involves ensuring precise measurements, optimizing lab performance, and validating audio system performance. You'll contribute to the innovation behind Google's products, focusing on achieving unparalleled accuracy and efficiency in audio signal conversion.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years audio acoustics experience
  • Experience with audio test equipment
  • Setup, operate, maintain audio test equipment
  • Calibrate and maintain audio test systems
  • Design and develop test scenarios and procedures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
Good to have:
  • PhD in related field
  • Experience automating measurements using specific audio test equipment
  • Experience with software tools like SoundCheck, CLIO, LabVIEW
  • Understanding of common audio issues in the recording industry

Job Details

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in audio acoustics, including building test setups and managing labs and associated equipment.
  • Experience with audio test equipment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD in Audio Acoustics, Speech Signal Processing, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in automating measurements using audio test equipment, including Audio Precision, HeadAcoustics, Prism dScope, Rohde and Schwarz, as well as signal generators, SPL meters, and measurement transducers.
  • Experience with software tools such as SoundCheck, CLIO, LabVIEW, Daqarta, and others.
  • Understanding of common audio issues in the recording industry and their root causes.

As an Acoustic Hardware Engineer, you will lead the setup and calibration of audio test systems and manage our lab and chambers. With your expertise in acoustic engineering, you will use audio test setups for a range of devices, including hearables, mobile phones, watches, and tablets.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and maintain audio and acoustics lab test equipment to ensure precise and dependable measurements and data collection for the development of machine learning models.
  • Calibrate and maintain audio test systems, and manage the operation and upkeep of reverberation chambers, anechoic chambers, and data science labs, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.
  • Design and develop test scenarios, tools, and procedures to validate audio system performance and analyze measured data and provide actionable feedback to system designers and product leads.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation on test results, calibration procedures, and system performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Research and Development (R&D), product development, and quality assurance, to support product testing and validation.
