Summary

This Animation Technician internship offers hands-on experience assisting in the production of an animated feature film. Interns will collaborate with the Animation Technician Team to develop and maintain production-specific programs supporting animation character rigs. Responsibilities include assessing and resolving technical issues related to character rigs, ensuring performance specifications are met, providing technical support to animators, maintaining and improving existing programs, and creating related documentation. The ideal candidate possesses strong coding and scripting skills, problem-solving abilities, excellent communication, and thrives in a collaborative environment.

Job Summary:

An Animation Technician internship consists of real-world work assisting in the production of an animated feature film. Our interns work with our Animation Technician Team to write production-specific programs that support animation character rigs through the creative process. We are looking for students who possess strong coding and scripting skills, a knack for problem solving and customer service, and work well in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Tech Leads to assess, diagnose and fix technical issues specific to the character rigs being used by character animators in production
  • Ensure that the result functions in accordance with performance specifications including, where applicable, user interface and robustness. Review and revise as instructed
  • Provide technical support to character animators
  • Maintain and improve completed results
  • Produce author-related documentation

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative, fluid environment with tasks that frequently change
  • Well-developed communication skills allowing for smooth, results-oriented interactions with different personalities and levels of capability
  • Familiarity with 3D software pkgs like Houdini, Maya, Katana, RenderMan, etc
  • Programming experience in C/C++ helpful to have
  • Experience in Unix/Linux systems
  • You are available to work full-time Mon 6.2.25 - Fri 8.22.25
  • You already possess the legal right to work in the United States

Eligibility:

Traditional Academic Paths:

  • Minimally a junior in college working towards a bachelors or masters in computer science, computer engineering, computer graphics, digital art or a related field
  • Recent grads within the first year after graduation are eligible to apply

Less Traditional Professional Paths:

  • Career Transition: Those with a minimum of 5 years post-college graduation and whose professional experiences in a work/academic environment differ vastly from animation, VFX, gaming, and other computer graphics-focused industries
  • Armed Forces: Those who have served in the armed forces and are in a retraining program
  • Home Schooled: Those who are self-taught via an alternative educational path
