Job Description

The Associate Art Director (VFX) is responsible for shaping the VFX pipeline for a new game, focusing on an ancient India fantasy world. This includes designing and iterating on the VFX pipeline, creating reusable Niagara Systems and custom functionality using Houdini for AAA quality FX simulations. The role involves defining the art direction for Visual Effects to support the game's themes, collaborating with Tech Art and Rendering Programmers for performance optimization, and managing a team of one Lead VFX Artist and one VFX Artist. The goal is to ensure VFX is praised for readability and visual fidelity, meets performance benchmarks, and scales effectively across the game.

Job Details

Core Mandate

  1. VFX Pipeline
  • Design and iterate on core VFX pipeline. Create reusable Niagara Systems, tapping into Niagara Scratch Pad to create custom functionality as needed. Using Houdini to produce bespoke AAA quality FX simulations for gameplay and cinematics. Investigating other VFX solutions including EmberGen, ZibraAI, realtime wind/water simulations etc.
  1. VFX Art Direction
  • Work with the Art Director and VFX Lead to come up with unique art direction for Visual Effects that supports our ancient India fantasy world and themes.
  1. VFX Performance Optimisation
  • Collaborate with Tech Art and Rendering Programmers to ensure all VFX is performant while maintaining a AAA quality.
  1. Managing 1 Lead VFX Artist and 1 Junior VFX Artist
  • Managing 1 Lead VFX Artist and 1 VFX Artist in 3D workflows and software.

Why do we need an Associate Art Director (VFX) ?

As the Associate Art Director (VFX) for Age of Bharat, you will be responsible for helping us shape the VFX pipeline to support a world-class experience that is grounded, skill-based, and deeply aligned with the game’s themes of myth, spiritual power, and resistance. You will run a team of one Lead VFX Artist and one VFX Artist and and work closely with art departments, animation, narrative, and gameplay programming to help develop a cohesive, satisfying, and mechanically satisfaying combat system and a compelling, rich, mystical world.

Success Criteria

  • The VFX is praised for its readability and visual fidelity.

  • Performance benchmarks are met.

  • The VFX Team is supported and empowered by you including skill growth and mentorship

  • VFX scale across the full game without falling into repetition or imbalance.

Your future team

You will join a project with 100 people (Gameplay Programmers, Designers, Artists, etc.) from multiple countries (Europe, Canada, USA…). The team is set to grow in the future!

All artists are supervised by Jérémie (Art Director) and you will work closely with him.
