Job Description

The Benefits Manager at Patreon will be responsible for developing and administering a comprehensive global benefits strategy. This includes strategic planning, program administration (US and international), compliance and risk management (ACA, 5500 filings, etc.), vendor and budget management, and employee communication. The role requires strong collaboration with HR, Compensation, Talent Acquisition, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in benefits, possess a bias for action, strong communication skills, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities encompass optimizing benefits, ensuring legal compliance, managing vendors, and enhancing employee understanding and utilization of benefits.

Job Details

Patreon is a media and community platform where creators give their biggest fans access to exclusive work and experiences. Over 300k creators are cultivating fandoms and building their businesses each month. Creators can offer free memberships to fans looking to explore more of their work, paid memberships to give access to exclusive media and community, or sell directly to fans with Shops.

Ultimately our goal is simple: fund the creative class. And we're leaders in that space, with:

  • 8B+ earned since Patreon's inception

  • 30M free new memberships in the first year of launching that option, and

  • 10M fans paying each month for exclusive access to creators' work and community.

We're continuing to invest heavily in building the best creator products with the best team in the creator economy and are looking for a Benefits Manager to support our mission. This role will work across multiple stakeholders: HR Operations, Compensation, Talent Acquisition, People Business Partners, HR Systems, Finance and Legal. It reports into our VP of People.

This role is open to those in San Francisco or New York who are able to be in-office 2 days per week.

About the Role

  • Strategic Benefits Planning: Optimize Patreon’s global benefits strategy - analyzing market trends and building the roadmap to enhance our offerings

  • Benefits Program Administration: Oversee the administration of employee benefits (both US and international) of health insurance, wellness programs, leave policies, and other benefits/perks 

  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure programs comply with federal, state, and local laws.  Manage audits, reporting, and regulatory requirements in the US and abroad (ACA, 5500 filings, state filings, state leave requirements) 

  • Vendor and Budget Management: Serve as primary liaison with benefit brokers to negotiate contracts, evaluate performance, and align benefits strategies with business needs

  • Employee Experience and Communication: Develop clear and engaging benefits communication strategies to enhance employee understanding and utilization.  Act as a trusted resource and first point of contact for employee inquiries.  

  • Process Optimization: Analyze current processes, implement improvements, and leverage HRIS platforms like Workday.

About You

  • 5+ years in benefits specialist roles (CEBS certification a plus)

  • Owner: Acts with responsibility for their own outcomes.  Cares about the large and small details of the employee experience, and how to engage on different types of requests. 

  • Bias to action: Speed matters. Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to think strategically and pragmatically, while taking rapid and decisive steps forward to improve the employee experience.

  • Asynchronous Communicator: You're able to distill complexity of your space into clear and concise messaging. You’re effective across various mediums and levels of leadership. 

  • Storyteller: Focuses on the ‘so what’ and challenges stakeholders to take impactful action.

Compensation Range: $119K - $212.4K
