About This Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analysis, machine learning, and statistical modeling, and will be passionate about turning data into actionable insights. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to analyze large datasets, build predictive models, and develop data-driven solutions to support business objectives.
Responsibilities:
Data Analysis and Modeling:
- Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights
- Develop, implement, and validate statistical and machine learning models to support business decisions
- Use advanced analytical techniques to process, clean, and verify the integrity of data
Data Visualization and Reporting:
- Create data visualizations to communicate insights to stakeholders
- Prepare and present comprehensive reports on findings and recommendations
- Collaborate with business units to understand their data needs and provide relevant data solutions
- Ability to create clear, actionable visualizations and reports tailored to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, often under strict compliance with government reporting standards
- Proficiency in tools like Tableau, Power BI, or government-specific tools like ArcGIS for geographic data
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work with data engineers to ensure data quality and availability
- Collaborate with product managers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand business goals and develop data-driven strategies
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Innovation and Improvement:
- Stay up to date with the latest trends in data science, machine learning, and AI
- Experiment with new techniques and tools to improve model performance and business outcomes
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes and methodologies
The “Need-to-Have” Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong background in analyzing complex datasets
- Experience in data processing, cleaning, and verification
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL and SAS
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI or Matplotlib
- Knowledge of big data technologies such as Spark or AWS is a plus
- Ability to communicate and present findings and recommendations clearly
- Proven experience with data analysis, statistical modeling and machine learning algorithms
- Ability to obtain a government-issued security clearance
Professional Certifications:Education:Bachelor's Degreein Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related field. PhD is a plus but not required
Clearance:Ability to Obtain and Maintain a Public Trust Clearance
Years of Professional Experience:
5+ years experience in data science or analytics within a government agency or in a consulting role for government clients
Required Technical/Business Tools Experience:
- Strong knowledge of Object-Oriented concepts, principals and patterns
- Proficient in Java languages
- Experience working with related areas, such as, HL7, Cache, MSSQL or Oracle and XML
- JIRA Agile project management tool
- Git/GitHub repository
