A Cubic Defence Aviation System Specialist (DASS) performs both routine and complex maintenance duties associated while following established standards and practices. This position is integral in planning maintenance activity as well as deployments with customer personnel. This position works under limited supervision, and liaises regularly with military aircrew.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform aviation standard soldering, cable & connector repair and bench repair activities
2. Develop and update technical procedures and documentation
3. Perform scheduled maintenance and corrective (unscheduled) repairs
4. Interpret and produce electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings and network drawings
5. Identify and analyse equipment malfunctions and utilise various maintenance and repair manuals, test equipment, wiring diagrams, schematics, electronics devices, electrical equipment and verbal instructions to re-work, repair, and test, troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
6. Perform software and firmware updates on avioinic equipment.
7. Maintain GPS firmware updates for the ACMI system, including the development and testing of the GPS configuration files. Oversee GPS firmware updates for Air Combat Manoeuvering Instrumentation (ACMI) pod fleet
8. Work with engineers to investigate complex issues associated with aircraft pod tracking, component failures and component re-designs. Provide solutions to complex issues
9. Design, test and implement approved modifications to the system.
10. Present and demonstrate new mission debriefing software releases to RAAF aircrew and implement software updates
11. Co-ordinate Logistics and Repairable Item Pipelines to ensure minimum turnaround times of items are observed
12. Perform maintenance of computers and associated peripherals as required
13. Maintain records of all support and repair activities in accordance with contractual requirements
14. Train military aircrew and groundcrew in the mission debriefing system
15. Participate in continual professional development and ongoing technical training courses
16. Perform the Logistics functions listed below:
a. Freight – manage incoming and outgoing shipments within and outside of Australia
b. Shipping – packaging and management of classified material in accordance with Commonwealth laws
c. Inventory Management. Track all assets using both Cubic and Commonwealth asset management tracking tools.
d. Stocktaking of Contractor Managed Commonwealth Assets
17. Collate data from multiple sources to create a mission for replay. Data formats include:
a. P5 ACMI pod data;
b. Datalogger data;
c. Aircraft internal GPS data;
d. Foreign aircraft data e.g. Grippen .EAG
e. Electronic Warfare data
f. Link 16 data
g. P4 ACMI pod data
18. Perform aircrew mission debriefs for the following activities:
a. Basic Fighter Manoeuvers (BFM)
b. Air Combat Manoeuvring (ACM)
c. Dissimilar combat Maneuvers (DCM)
d. Large Force Engagement (LFE)
19. Set up IT assets to conduct mission debrief
20. Operate Tactical Data Links (TDL) specifically the Link 16 data which is forwarded by JREAP-C utilising Joint Range Extension (JRE)
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
1. Comply with Cubic’s Quality Management System

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Cert IV in Aeroskills or equivalent
2. 6 years’ experience in military aviation. This must be completed within an ADF Authorised Maintenance Organisation (AMO) to ensure an underpinning knowledge of ADF Airworthiness Regulatory Requirements.
3. Minimum military experience as a Trade Supervisor, Maintenance Manager or Independent Inspector within an ADF AMO.
4. Knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and networking.
5. Ability to use PC software such as word processors, spread sheets and databases
6. Ability to draft and present test reports and publications amendment recommendations.
7. Ability to lift 25kgs
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Must be an Australian Citizen
2. Currently holds a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance and is deemed suitable for NV2, as per AGSVA eligibility guidelines
