The EHS Specialist is responsible for implementing and completing HSE initiatives for manufacturing, engineering, and commissioning operations. This role requires a strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations and requirements. The specialist will maintain safety inspections, manage the chemical inventory, support project teams with HSE plans and risk assessments, ensure supplier compliance, and provide training to employees. They will also need to communicate effectively with team members and assist with administrative tasks. Travel is required 10-50% to support the Netherlands and the wider business within the EU.
Must have:
  • Maintain safety inspections and checklists.
  • Manage chemical inventory database.
  • Support project teams with HSE plans and assessments.
  • Ensure supplier and contractor HSE compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English.
  • 3+ years of related work experience in HSE/engineering.
Good to have:
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Excel.
  • Functional and operational knowledge of ISO14001 and ISO45001
  • Capability to present information effectively to diverse audiences.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist

Position Summary

The HSE Specialist is responsible for implementing and completing HSE initiatives for manufacturing, engineering and commissioning operations. This role requires a high level of understanding of health, safety and environmental regulations and requirements. 

Teamwork and Communication skills are essential for this role as it requires close interaction with the different stakeholders across different levels within the business. to ensure any issues get communicated and resolved in a timely manner.  The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, able to handle multiple project assignments and willing to learn and adapt within a fast-paced engineering organization.  Travel is required 10-50%. This position will support the Netherlands as well as the wider business within the EU.


Core Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains and completes routine (both in house and on location) safety inspections including required checklists, tracking audit findings, responses and audit close-outs.

  • Maintains chemical inventory database for storage and categorization of inhouse chemicals.
  • Supporting project teams with creating HSE project plans.
  • Supporting project teams with doing HSE risk assessments.
  • Ensuring suppliers and contractors comply with HSE standards.
  • Functional and operational knowledge of ISO14001 and ISO45001
  • Prevention officer: support the employer in realizing optimal working conditions (using RI&E as tool), assist in preparing, monitoring and realization of Action List resulting from RI&E, inform and cooperate with company doctor and health and safety specialists (arbodienst), inform and cooperate with the Works Council.
  • Communicate consistently and effectively to all cross-functional team members where needed to ensure HSE improvements and changes are understood, and questions are answered to move projects forward.
  • Deliver training to employees including HSE new hire orientation.
  • Build and maintain knowledge of Plug Power technology.
  • Assist HSE leaders with completion of administrative tasks and record retention.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Health, Safety and Environment or an Engineering discipline with a focus in health and safety environmental.
  • 3+ years of related work experience in HSE/engineering.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, other software experience would be an advantage
  • Capability to present information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to role model high standards of professionalism.
  • Must be driven and self-motivated with excellent follow-through.
  • Must possess the highest ethical standards and a commitment to work quality.
  • Ability to manage complex projects.
