Engineering Manager (IoT)

As an Engineering Manager IoT / Control (m/f/d) you will lead a talented product team dedicated to developing and maintaining the Toniecloud IoT services. Your focus will be on continuous discovery, usability, quality and security, ensuring a top-tier experience for our millions of users worldwide.

In the IoT and Control stream, you will play a central role in ensuring the seamless integration of our IoT products. You will empower our users by providing them with intuitive tools to set up and customize their devices to suit their unique needs.

Your Responsibilities as a Leader:

• Drive the technical execution of the product roadmap, ensuring efficient delivery and continuous improvement in collaboration with Product Management

• Retain a high-performing engineering team, fostering a healthy and growth-oriented work environment

• Inspire and guide the team through change, ensuring alignment on challenges, solutions, and execution strategies

• Provide technical direction while aligning engineering efforts with business goals, product strategy, and customer needs

• Ensure stable, reliable, and high-quality software delivery following lean principles and best practices

Your Team’s Responsibilities:

• Developing and maintaining our Toniecloud IoT services, ensuring they meet the needs of millions of users, including

  • A robust django backend platform offering RESTful and GraphQL APIs

  • An IoT messaging stack that processes technical diagnostic data from millions of Tonieboxes around the globe

• Commitment to reliability, ensuring our services are available 24/7, 365 days a year, and helping us achieve our 99,99% SLA

• Collaboration within a cross-functional, stream-aligned team, championing technical excellence to deliver seamless, always-on services. Close collaboration with the Product Manager and team members to ensure a fantastic user experience within the app (enabling parents to set up and configure their Tonieboxes and Tonies intuitively, enabling unlimited joy for our little listeners)

• Ability to inspire and drive change by identifying challenges, creating a clear vision, and executing improvements collaboratively with the team (Transformational Leadership)

• Solid understanding of core engineering concepts, modern software development practices, and experience guiding technical decisions

• Ability to align engineering efforts with business goals, understand product strategy, and collaborate effectively with Product Management

• You have been a passionate software engineer for many years and are excited to continue improving your skills

• You are fluent in at least two programming languages – ideally, one of them is Python – and you can quickly adapt to new languages when needed

• Your code is lean, well-structured and easy to understand. You avoid unnecessary complexity from the outset and have a knack for solving complex problems with simple solutions

• You are familiar with database systems (ideally PostgreSQL) and use ORMs thoughtfully and efficiently

• Linux is your preferred environment and working with Git and GitLab is part of your daily routine

• Your work style is characterized by agility, teamwork, independence and creativity, especially when exploring new solutions

• You are comfortable communicating in English in a professional work environment
