Game Designer

(Contract)

Overview:

Skillionaire Games is seeking an experienced Video Game Designer specializing in Economy design and non-addictive player retention strategies. In this project-based role, you will be responsible for refining our games economy, expanding gameplay and minigames, and enhancing the overall player experience, retention, and enjoyment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Economy Design: Develop and refine in-game economies that are balanced, fair, and sustainable.
  • Player Retention: Design mechanics and features that encourage long-term player retention through positive reinforcement, fun, and meaningful progression, rather than addictive loops.
  • Gameplay Expansion: Collaborate with the development team to expand and improve existing gameplay systems and minigames, ensuring they are enjoyable, immersive, and rewarding for the player experience.
  • Technical Writing: Create detailed game design documentation, including economy models, gameplay mechanics, and retention strategies, to guide the development process and ensure alignment across the team.
  • Team Collaboration: Effectively communicate and collaborate with remote team members, ensuring that design goals are met and that the development process runs smoothly.

Qualifications:

  • Economy Design Expertise: Proven experience in designing and balancing in-game economies that promote player engagement.
  • Player Retention Strategy: Strong understanding of player retention techniques, with a focus on creating enjoyable and meaningful player experiences.
  • Gameplay Design: Demonstrated ability to expand and enhance gameplay systems and minigames, ensuring they are fun, immersive, and aligned with overall game goals.
  • Shipped Game Experience: Experience in the full game development cycle, having shipped one or more titles that include economy systems and player retention mechanics.
  • Technical Writing Skills: Proficiency in creating clear and comprehensive game design documentation, with attention to detail and an ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
  • Remote Collaboration: Experience working in a remote team environment, with strong communication and collaboration skills to ensure cohesive and efficient teamwork.

Would Be Nice:

  • Background in UI/UX design, particularly for economy and retention-focused interfaces.
  • Familiarity with data-driven design and analytics to inform and refine game features.
  • Experience with narrative design that supports economy and retention systems.
  • 1+ year of experience with at least one shipped game in a production environment.
