CD PROJEKT RED seeks a Gameplay Designer for Cyberpunk 2. Responsibilities include analyzing, pitching, prototyping, developing, and balancing core combat and moment-to-moment gameplay; designing player combat mechanics, weapons, and abilities; designing enemy behaviors, abilities, and weapons; collaborating in a cross-disciplinary environment; and staying current on industry trends. The role involves working on the progression of player abilities to create diverse playstyles and designing challenging encounters. Reporting to the Lead Gameplay Designer, this position requires at least 5 years of professional game industry experience and proven success in creating compelling gameplay mechanics.
Must have:
  • 5+ years game industry experience
  • Compelling gameplay mechanics creation
  • Open-world, RPG, or action game experience
  • Combat & moment-to-moment gameplay design
  • Enemy and player ability design
  • Collaboration and feedback integration
Good to have:
  • Unreal Engine 4/5 experience
  • Narrative-focused game knowledge

Job Description

CD PROJEKT RED is looking for a Gameplay Designer to work on Cyberpunk 2, the follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077 where you will be tasked with moment to moment gameplay mechanics that will lead to engaging experiences that will drive our players. Reporting to the Lead Gameplay Designer, you’ll be working on the progression of the player’s abilities to create interesting and varied playstyles while also working on enemy and encounter designs to challenge those playstyles in a variety of ways.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Analyzing, pitching, prototyping, developing, and balancing core combat and
  • moment-to-moment gameplay.
  • Designing and crafting player combat mechanics, weapons, and abilities.
  • Designing and crafting enemy behaviors, abilities, and weapons.
  • Collaborating and producing in a cross-discipline environment while building and refining design over time using internal/external feedback.
  • Remaining current on industry trends including new game genres, new game design methods and techniques, and trending audio-visual excellence.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the game industry.
  • Proven success in creating compelling and innovative gameplay mechanics.
  • Experience in developing open world, roleplaying and/or action games.
  • Openness for changes & experimentation and high-quality passion are appreciated!

Nice to Haves

(Please note that these skills are not required to apply for the position)

  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 and/or Unreal Engine 5. 
  • A deep knowledge of our narrative focused games.

This job requires working in Boston, US.
Working mode: in-office in a hybrid or full-time capacity.
