SummaryBy Outscal

CoolGames seeks a Head of Operations to manage multi-team development studio, execute roadmap, drive output, and optimize processes. Must have 8+ years software dev exp, 5+ years in leadership roles, proven track record, and mastery of project management.

Description

CoolGames is seeing strong success with its games portfolio. Several of our titles are doing very well and the number of distribution channels for these games is increasing too. We see many new opportunities to further expand on this success and are currently investing in the studio capacity by hiring additional game development teams.

But as the business is growing and our studio is expanding, so is the complexity of organizing everything simultaneously and have all teams work together most productively. We’re therefore looking for a Head of Operations to help us seize the opportunities, deliver on our ambitious roadmap and ultimately scale the company to the next level.

About CoolGames

Founded in 2010, CoolGames is a leading HTML5-specialized studio developing high-quality casual games. We successfully publish our titles via many new ‘Big Tech’ game platforms beyond the traditional app-stores: players can now also instantly start a game from Facebook, Discord, YouTube or Netflix. At the same time, there are still millions of people playing our games via websites each year.

For our games, we work with several famous brands (for example Monopoly, Battleship, Angry Birds) but also created fully in-house IP that became #1 hits on various big platforms. We have an ambitious roadmap to start the development of several new game projects in the next months to further expand our portfolio.

About the job

As Head of Operations, you will help delivering on a set ambitious roadmap. You will manage the day-to-day operations for a multi-team development studio, with varying requirements and dynamics: ranging from new big-budget projects to continuous LiveOps improvements on our top-performing titles or adjusting existing games to fit the specific features of the distribution platforms.

You will play a vital role to ensure that the studio runs smoothly: primarily focus on development goals by getting more output from the talented teams that we have and help organizing for studio growth.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Execute and deliver on our roadmap, secure the smooth processes within and between teams whilst gradually further scaling the development capacity;
  • Providing strong execution leadership to the studio, inspire and motivate teams through setting personal example, enthusiasm and work dedication;
  • Help drive output and maximizing both team- and individual accomplishments;
  • Directly manage our team of Game Producers and collaborate closely with the other key studio leaders and help them develop plans to achieve the company roadmap and goals;
  • Implement KPIs to track timely project delivery and development quality;
  • Identify risks in time and balance priorities in accordance with business goals and budget;
  • You will be part of the company’s management team (Soundboard), report directly to the CEO and work closely with the business and product teams to align to the studio goals.

Requirements

You are a “can-do” spirited professional who is comfortable with overseeing multiple big and smaller projects simultaneously. You have an ownership mentality who can recognize talent in both colleagues and teams, while not afraid to clearly identify issues and point out responsibilities:

  • At least 8 years of experience in software development: relevant experience in the mobile F2P or HTML5 games industry is a strong bonus;
  • At least 5 years in development leadership roles with direct reports;
  • A proven track record in improving operational processes and increasing team output;
  • Mastery of project management, including Agile methodologies, and related tools;
  • A data-driven personality with expertise in Excel or other tools to track, model and analyze productivity KPIs versus set business goals and company priorities;
  • A strong and motivating communicator, being able to work directly with colleagues from various expertise and backgrounds and people with very different personalities;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English, with the ability to create professional plans and presentations for the team-leads, wider company and other stake-holders;
  • A methodical and analytical mindset with attention to detail. A relevant Bachelor or Master’s degree is a strong bonus.

Benefits

At CoolGames, we can offer you an exciting role with significant responsibility and an attractive compensation package:

  • A competitive salary in line with your experience;
  • An international and growing team of around 50 colleagues from almost 20 different countries;
  • Opportunity to work directly with famous IP and some of the biggest Big Tech platforms in the world;
  • Participation in our company Pension Plan;
  • Health care insurance compensation;
  • Travel cost compensation and sports allowance;
  • Flexibility to work remote part-time;
  • An attractive office location in the heart of Amsterdam;
  • A high-end PC, Macbook Pro or other laptop;
  • A very open, informal and international company culture where everyone can make a difference.
