Job Description

Tesla is seeking an Industrial Engineer for its Gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg. The successful candidate will leverage process improvement expertise to assess and enhance production systems, focusing on cost reduction and capacity optimization. This role demands strong communication and interpersonal abilities, a holistic understanding of manufacturing, and the ability to prioritize projects based on opportunity. Key responsibilities include identifying and executing process improvements, evaluating value-add and non-value-add activities, defining headcount budgets, creating line balancing plans, implementing efficiency audits, managing operational metrics, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will possess a B.S. in Industrial Engineering or a related field (M.S./M.Eng preferred), 5+ years of relevant experience, and proficiency in MS Office Suite, along with experience in problem-solving methodologies and continuous improvement techniques.

What to Expect
A successful industrial engineer willuse his/her process improvement experience to quantitatively assess currentproduction/business system performance and execute change to reduce cost andoptimize capacity. This role demands excellent communication and interpersonalskills as well as a holistic understanding of manufacturingoperations.   Industrial engineers will not only execute onchange, but also prioritize projects based on opportunity.  Industrialengineers will work independent across departments with production, design,quality, finance, supply chain, demand planning, production planning, andvarious engineering teams to improve factory operations and reduce cost. Asuccessful IE team member will balance short-term tactical improvement withlong-term business process and systems improvement.
What You’ll Do
  • Identify, quantify, compare, and executeproduction process improvements to drive safety and ergonomics, quality (firstpass yield), availability (uptime), performance (cycle time variability),capital utilization, and demand attainment.
  • Evaluate and document value-add (VA),non-value-add (NVA), and non-value-add-but-necessary (NVABN) time requirementsof manual and automated processes utilizing standard templates, software, and methods.
  • Define required to operate (RTO) Headcountbudget and On-Roll targets by shop.
  • Provide line balancing plans toProduction management; gain acknowledgement from Process Engineering thatcritical to quality and sequence dependencies remain in-tact.
  • Create and implement tools to audit efficiencyand identify cost reduction opportunities across Tesla.
  • Define and manage operational metricsfor current and future production systems.
  • Calculate, propose, and implement newmethods and processes for existing production systems.
  • Educate and engage cross-functionalteams in importance of continuous improvement.
  • Manage and communicate improvementopportunities and implementation plans to all relevant levels and functions inthe factory.
  • Support in economic feasibility studiesand make or buy decisions by analysis and preparation of necessary facts incooperation with various departments
What You’ll Bring
  • B.S. in Industrial Eng., MechanicalEng., Engineering Management (M.S./M.Eng. Preferred) with 5+ years of workexperience.
  • Outstanding critical thinking andcommunication skills, with a very high level of emotional intelligence,autonomy, and servant leadership.
  • Innate ability to fully comprehend newprocesses and systems quickly, with high attention to detail.
  • Industrial costcontrol/reporting/analysis experience in high volume manufacturingenvironments.
  • Advanced-level MS Office skills(primarily Excel and Visio).
  • Leadership/management experience and/orend-to-end project management experience.
  • Experience with industry-standardproblem solving methodologies (A3, ATS, UPS), preventive and autonomousmaintenance concepts, time/motion study analysis (MTN, MODAPTS, MOST),continuous improvement (6 sigma techniques, lean manufacturing), and changemanagement.
  • Experience with applied mathematics andoperations research (linear and non-linear programming, stochastic simulationmethods).
  • Experience with any/all of thefollowing: simulation modeling software (FlexSim, AnyLogic), data visualizationsoftware (Tableau), design software (SolidWorks, CATIA), programming languages(SQL, Python, MATLAB, VBA).
