The Release Manager for IT Services is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the deployment of software updates, infrastructure changes, and new services into production environments. This role ensures that releases are implemented smoothly, on time, and with minimal disruption to business operations.
The Release Management Lead collaborates with development, operations, quality assurance, and business teams to ensure that every release is thoroughly tested, documented, and meets the company's standards for quality and performance.
End-to-End Release Management: Plan, manage, and coordinate release activities across teams, ensuring timely delivery within scope and business requirements while collaborating with development, operations, and QA for release readiness.
Governance and Compliance: Establish and enforce release management standards, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with ITIL and regulatory requirements while maintaining release calendars and managing release windows.
Risk Management: Identify, mitigate, and manage release risks, ensuring rollback procedures are in place and overseeing post-release evaluations to drive continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary contact for release-related matters, providing regular status updates to stakeholders and ensuring proper documentation, including change logs and issue tracking.
Process Improvement: Continuously enhance release management processes by identifying inefficiencies, implementing automation tools, and streamlining workflows to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
Collaboration & Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams throughout the release lifecycle, mentoring team members on best practices while fostering collaboration between development, QA, and operations.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
5-7 years of proven experience in release management, IT services, or software development lifecycle management.
Proven experience leading complex releases in a fast-paced environment.
Strong experience in working with CI/CD pipelines and release automation tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab, Azure DevOps).
Strong knowledge of ITIL release management processes.
Excellent project management skills, with experience using tools like Jira, ServiceNow, etc.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple releases simultaneously.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Familiarity with DevOps and Agile methodologies.
ITIL certification (Release, Control, and Validation)
PMP or equivalent project management certifications
DevOps or Agile-related certifications (e.g., CSM, SAFe)
