Summary

Framestore seeks a Lead DataOps and Render-Support to manage and optimize their render farm and data operations. Responsibilities include liaising with production and CG management to prioritize farm tasks, maintaining standardized workflows, and ensuring team cohesion. The role involves monitoring and reporting on render jobs, resource usage, identifying and resolving errors, and collaborating with TDs on optimization. DataOps responsibilities include monitoring, tracking, and reporting data usage, managing data archiving and retrieval, liaising with technical directors, and delivering data to clients. Experience with render farm tools (Deadline, Tractor, RenderPal, etc.) and data transfer tools (FTP, Aspera, Cygnient, etc.) is crucial.
Must have:
  • Excellent Communication Skills

  • Understanding of VFX support environment
  • Knowledge of Data transfer tools (FTP, Aspera etc.)
  • Team handling and mentorship experience
Good to have:
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows OS

Job description

Framestore is an Oscar, Bafta, and Emmy award-winning global creative company working in film, advertising, AR/MR/VR, theme park dark rides, and pre/post visualization work among many other creative endeavors. We are looking for a driven problem solver possessing a strong appreciation for team building and communication.

Job roles and Responsibilities:

Lead DataOps and Render-Support

  • Liaises with production & CG manager to ensure farm priorities

  • Ensures standardized workflows are followed

  • Maintains team cohesion & Schedule

  • Proceeds to team performance review and performance management

  • Performs Front End tasks

  • Monitor and report on render jobs for each show

  • Monitor, track and report render resource usage for each project

  • Balance multiple shows resource needs within the Company's physical capacity

  • Identify render errors and fix/escalate to the relevant department

  • Liaise with TDs regarding possible render optimization

  • Assist with out of hours data operations requests

  • Monitor disk/data usage out of hours to ensure availability of disk resources

DataOps

  • Monitoring, tracking and reporting data usage for each project

  • Identifying data for archival and removal

  • Liaising with technical directors responsible for data removal

  • Tracking and reporting trends in disk usage

  • Bringing data online from a variety of external sources

  • Delivering data to clients

  • Post-show clean up and final archiving

  • Restoring data from previous projects

Job requirements

Essential Skills :

Excellent Communication skills

Must have worked on Renderfarm tools (like Deadline, tractor, renderpal, fqu, renderman etc)

Understanding of VFX support environment

Knowledge of Data transfer tools like FTP, Asperra, Cygnient etc

Good to have : 

Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows Operating System

Technical mindset to be able to do basic troubleshooting

Leadership Skills : 

Must have handled a team

Mentor, guide the team at frequent intervals
