Job Description

The Lead Dev Ops Engineer will lead and mentor a team of DevOps Engineers, defining and implementing strategic roadmaps, and driving enhancements to meet organizational requirements. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders, overseeing infrastructure design and maintenance, and managing the migration from AWS to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The engineer will establish CI/CD pipelines, maintain security, and ensure comprehensive documentation and best practices. The role also includes hands-on technical contributions and problem-solving, supporting the live infrastructure and platform solutions, ensuring high availability and performance. The candidate will recommend changes to improve infrastructure and operational efficiency.
Must have:
  • Lead and mentor a team of DevOps Engineers.
  • Define and implement DevOps strategic roadmap.
  • Oversee infrastructure design and maintenance.
  • Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong Linux systems administration experience.
  • Expertise in Docker and container orchestration.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and GCP.
Good to have:
  • Experience with serverless infrastructure.
  • Experience with network design and administration.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, Node.js, PHP).
  • Experience with version control systems, ideally Git.
  • Web server configuration (Apache, Nginx).
  • Database management (MySQL, MongoDB).

What You'll Bring:

We’re looking for a Lead Dev Ops Engineer to join our growing team. 

Day to Day You’ll Be:

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Lead and mentor a team of DevOps Engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Define and implement the strategic roadmap for DevOps initiatives, ensuring alignment with group-wide infrastructure and tools.

  • Advocate for and lead the adoption of the TransUnion toolbox, identifying gaps and driving enhancements to meet specific organisational requirements.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across development, operations, and security teams to align infrastructure strategy with business goals.

Infrastructure & Operations: 

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of our infrastructure, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security.

  • Support, monitor, and enhance the live infrastructure and platform solutions, ensuring high availability and performance.

  • Plan and execute the integration of our current infrastructure into TransUnion's group-wide cloud platform while minimising disruptions.

  • Lead the migration of infrastructure from AWS to Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ensuring a smooth transition and leveraging GCP services effectively. 

  • Recommend changes to improve infrastructure, working practices, and operational efficiency.

 

DevOps & Security:

  • Establish and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines, collaborating closely with development teams to streamline deployment processes.

  • Lead initiatives to maintain and enhance our security posture, ensuring compliance with industry standards and frameworks (e.g., SOC-2, ISO 27001).

  • Diagnose and resolve infrastructure outages and incidents, ensuring timely resolution and root cause analysis.

Documentation & Best Practices:

  • Ensure comprehensive documentation of infrastructure, systems, and processes to support onboarding, troubleshooting, and scalability.

  • Promote and implement DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) best practices across the organisation.

Essential Skills & Experience:

Leadership:

  • Proven experience leading a team of DevOps or Infrastructure Engineers, with strong coaching and mentoring skills.

  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical contributions.

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong Linux systems administration experience, including firewalls and hardening

  • Expertise in Docker and container orchestration.

  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, particularly Terraform.

  • Experience with network design, administration, and troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, Node.js, PHP).

  • Experience with version control systems, ideally Git.

  • Web server configuration (Apache, Nginx).

  • Database management (MySQL, MongoDB), including high availability and backup solutions.

  • Hands-on experience managing cloud providers, with significant experience in AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

  • Familiarity with GCP services such as Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Storage, BigQuery, and IAM. 

  • Familiarity with configuration management and IT automation tools.

  • Strong understanding of DevOps and SRE principles.

Soft Skills:

  • Self-motivated, highly organised, and capable of driving initiatives from concept to delivery.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with serverless infrastructure (e.g., AWS Fargate, Lambda, GCP Cloud Functions).
