The role involves partnering with senior leadership, developing organizational effectiveness capabilities, and staying informed on industry trends. The ideal candidate will be based in the United Kingdom and will report to the Senior Director, Organizational Design. The role requires strong organizational design experience and skills in project management, people management and collaboration.

Job Description

McDonald’s has an exciting opportunity for a Director, Organizational Design role based in the United Kingdom. You will lead organizational design and operating model projects across 2 key business segments, Internationally Operated Markets (IOM) and International Developmental Licensee Markets (IDL) fostering the development of organizational capabilities needed to support the execution of business strategy. This role will report to the Senior Director, Organizational Design and serve as a member of the Global Organizational design Leadership Team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in organizational design and operating models, and a data-driven approach to executing programs effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities

In addition to following McDonald’s policies and procedures, principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Organizational Design & Implementation:

  • Lead organizational design and operating model projects, fostering the development of organizational capabilities and structures needed to support the execution of the business strategy.
  • Manage a portfolio of projects operating in parallel; navigate ambiguity to define work, balance competing priorities; drive alignment amidst midstream adjustments.
  • Deliver recommendations for solution designs (including structure, roles, decision rights, interfaces, forums, etc.), building discussion material, design artifacts and implementation plans to support necessary changes.
  • Provide expertise on key facets of organizational design, including capability taxonomies, sizing, spans of control and reporting layers.
  • Serve as People Manager for Manager, Organizational Design based in the US.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Partnerships:

  • Drive organizational transformation efforts across the IOM/IDL Segment, ensuring the organization’s strategic priorities are translated into clear roles, processes and structures.
  • Partner and advise senior leadership and HR Business Partners on effective organizational design practices, participating in leadership forums to share expertise.
  • Partner with People Partners to develop organizational effectiveness capability and provide strategic organizational design input and guidance.

Governance, Metrics, and Innovation:

  • Steward effectiveness resource investment and efficiency across the enterprise by promoting healthy organization shape and size.
  • Contribute to and reinforce organization governance processes, reporting on organization metrics.
  • Stay up-to-date and informed on trends and innovations in organization effectiveness. Bring to the table new designs, tools, and methods that will help position the organization to grow.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Design, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in Human Resources or Organizational Design, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of organizational design trends, best practices, and HR compliance regulations.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with global teams and manage diverse, complex teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, consulting, and project management skills.
  • High emotional intelligence, business acumen, and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to influence and partner at senior levels, and lead talent strategies aligned with business goals, including scoping organization components of complex transformations with interconnected workstreams and dependencies.
  • Strong project management skills, with a proven track record of leading large, complex projects using standard project management practices and tools; experience with agile project management practices is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a large consultancy (strategy, organization, or human capital practices) is a significant plus.
