The Role

XD Design Engineering is a small team of software engineers with a big mandate: to develop, maintain, and innovate the Design Platform central to Netflix’s product development lifecycle.  Our goal is to improve product development velocity without compromising on fidelity and to increase efficiency of the design/engineering handoff.  Our portfolio includes API services, web apps, and figma Plugins, serving a diverse range of cross-functional partners, from product designers and project managers to software engineers.

In this high-impact role, you’ll work on the foundational system that powers the Netflix Design System across multiple design and engineering platforms.  You’ll collaborate closely with both designers and engineers, working with platform and product teams to drive innovation.  You'll lead and champion projects and effectively communicate their impact to partner teams. You will also gather input from stakeholders, identifying opportunities to help set a long-term technical strategy that continuously evolves the design platform to ensure it remains best-in-class.

  • Completing medium to large features independently without guidance

  • Be the engineering lead on projects, working from ideation to implementation to rollout

  • Work with engineers across other teams to maintain the integrity and reliability of the Design platform

  • Participate in on-call rotation to continue to meet our critical SLAs

  • Conducting design and code reviews

  • Able to design, architect, debug, test, and create well-documented code

  • Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js

Even Better

  • You’re known for your excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

  • You have an ownership mentality in all the things you build and are comfortable with identifying opportunities and driving forward-looking technical roadmaps

  • You take a thoughtful, practical approach to problem-solving that considers tradeoffs and avoids over-engineering

  • You’re motivated by the scope and impact to influence decisions that impact millions of users and billions of requests

  • Expert at managing large-scale APIs and web application

  • Current/former professional experience working with Design Systems
