As a Senior Gameplay Systems Programmer at Epic Games, you'll enhance and maintain the Gameplay Ability System within Unreal Engine, collaborating on the future of abilities. Responsibilities include architecting and maintaining gameplay systems, APIs, and features. You'll provide guidance to other teams, improve system performance and scalability, build bridges with other Engine teams, diagnose performance issues, and innovate new technologies. This role requires strong C++ skills, understanding of networked games, and experience with AAA games or game engine development. The position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and contribute to the evolution of Unreal Engine.

What You'll Do

We are looking for a Senior Gameplay Systems Programmer passionate about broadening the capabilities of gameplay actions and abilities in games. You will be working with others to build the future of how gameplay abilities interact with various engine systems. As a member of the Gameplay Framework team you’ll be responsible for architecting and maintaining gameplay systems, APIs, and features within Unreal Engine that allow our licensees to build the next generation of amazing gameplay experiences.

In this role, you will

  • Improve and maintain the Gameplay Ability System and collaboratively design the future of abilities in Unreal.
  • Provide guidance and share knowledge with other teams about how to best solve problems.
  • Improve existing systems to be more performant, scalable, and stable.
  • Build and maintain bridges with other teams within the Engine group to help drive and maintain vision.
  • Diagnose cpu and network performance issues to unlock the full potential of the engine for licensees.
  • Look for ways to push the technology forward in new and innovative ways.

What we're looking for

  • Strong C++ skills and programming principles knowledge
  • Strong understanding of networked game principles
  • Adjacent experience in one or more of the following areas: AI, input, animation, or physics
  • Talent for building robust, extensible, maintainable systems
  • Experience developing AAA games or game engine technology professionally
  • Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and able to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate fluently in English (written and verbal)

This role is open to multiple locations in North America (including CA & WA).

Pay Transparency Information

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).

$215,921$316,683 USD
Washington Base Pay Range
$202,965$297,682 USD
