Job Description

Google is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their Google Ads team. This role will focus on AI/ML Natural Language Processing (NLP) and will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing large-scale software solutions. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in software development with a strong understanding of data structures and algorithms. They will also have extensive experience with NLP concepts and algorithms, ML design, and optimizing ML infrastructure. Responsibilities include providing technical leadership on high-impact projects, managing project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, facilitating alignment across teams, influencing and coaching engineers, and leading NLP solution design, ML infrastructure optimization, and model evaluation and debugging efforts.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
8 years of software development experience
Experience with data structures/algorithms
5 years of experience testing and launching software products
3 years of experience with software design and architecture
5 years of experience with NLP concepts and algorithms
Experience designing NLP solutions
5 years of experience leading ML design and optimizing ML infrastructure

Good to have:

Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
5 years of experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) concepts and algorithms, and experience in designing NLP solutions.
5 years of experience leading ML design and optimizing ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large scale software solutions.

Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines. Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.
Lead NLP solution design, optimize ML infrastructure, and guide model evaluation and debugging efforts.
